Update: In an attempt to notify the public of the rabid fox, one piece of information was inaccurate. The person who came into contact with the fox was an adult female who sustained a minor injury while trying to separate her dog and the fox.

We remind the public to contact our non-emergency phone number if observing a suspicious animal, 240-314-8900.

The Rockville City Police Department is advising residents in and around the Potomac Woods and Horizon Hills neighborhoods to remain alert after a rabid fox attacked a man and his dog, as well as separately attacking another dog in the area.

Residents are urged to use caution, remain aware of their surroundings, and keep pets indoors or closely supervised while outside. Avoid approaching any fox or wild animal that appears aggressive, disoriented, unusually bold, or sick.

If you observe an aggressive fox or suspicious animal activity, please contact the Rockville City Police Department immediately at 240-314-8900.

Your awareness and prompt reporting can help keep our community safe.

The Rockville City Police Department was proud to have our Community Services Unit attend the annual Trike-a-Thon at the Rockville Presbyterian Cooperative Nursery School! ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿš“

Our officers had a great time teaching bicycle safety, providing demonstrations, and riding alongside the students during this fun and meaningful event. The Trike-a-Thon helped raise awareness and support for Type 1 Diabetes, while also promoting safe riding habits for our youngest community members.

Thank you to the students, staff, and families for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful event and for your efforts in supporting an important cause. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with our community and help make learning fun!

The Rockville City Police Department was honored to partner with Rockville Bike Hub for todayโ€™s Kids Bike Giveaway at RedGate Park. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the McSisters Foundation for their generous donation of bicycles that helped make this event possible.

Todayโ€™s event was a great opportunity to connect with local families and continue our commitment to both protecting and serving the Rockville community. Seeing children excited to receive new bikes made for a memorable day for everyone involved.

As families get outside and enjoy riding this season, we encourage all bicyclists to ride responsibly, wear a helmet, and follow the rules of the road to help keep our community safe. ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿš”

On May 14, 2026, at approximately 11:52 a.m., officers from the Rockville City Police Department responded to the area of Wootton Parkway and Rockshire Place for a reported assault in progress. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently recovering.

At this time, the victim has been unable to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident and has been uncooperative with investigators. Witnesses reported that a group of approximately 20 males on mopeds assaulted the victim with a blunt object before fleeing the area. Investigators believe the offenders are from areas outside of the City of Rockville.

Although this incident occurred in close proximity to Wootton High School, there is no evidence that the assault stemmed from anything related to the school, and no students were involved in the incident. The Rockville City Police Department had an officer assigned at Wootton High School at the time of the assault and responded immediately due to the close proximity. We want to reassure the community that there was no threat to students or staff at the school.

Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this assault and ask anyone with information to contact the Rockville City Police Department at 240-314-8938. Witnesses may remain anonymous.
