Parke County Courthouse Storm Shelter

We are expecting severe weather tonight. If you need shelter from the storms, Parke County Emergency Management has opened a storm shelter in the basement of the Courthouse in Rockville. Please enter through the east basement door (Men’s Room). Please remember dogs must be on leashes and cats in carriers.

The Shelter will be open for the duration of the storms tonight. If you have questions, please contact;

⚠️ Public Safety Notice – Dangerous Area on Sugar Creek at Turkey Run State Park ⚠️

Anyone floating, canoeing, kayaking, or tubing on Sugar Creek through Turkey Run State Park should be aware of a hazardous log jam located just downstream from the Suspension Bridge.

Due to the position of the debris and the natural flow of the creek, the current is actively pushing boats, kayaks, canoes, and tubes toward the log jam, creating a serious safety risk. Multiple rescue operations have already been conducted in this area to assist stranded paddlers and tubers who became trapped near the debris.

Visitors planning to travel this section of Sugar Creek are urged to use extreme caution, remain alert, and avoid the affected area whenever possible. Please share this information with family and friends who may be visiting the park or using the creek.

Your safety is the top priority. Stay aware of changing water conditions and always wear a properly fitted life jacket while on the water.

Disaster Relief Now Available for Many Hoosiers

Governor Mike Braun has declared a disaster emergency for 63 Indiana counties impacted by severe weather, flooding, tornadoes and the June derecho.

If your primary residence was damaged and you are uninsured or underinsured, you may be eligible for up to $25,000 through Indiana's State Disaster Relief Fund to help with recovery.

-Assistance is available for eligible homeowners
-Applications are now open
-Additional counties may qualify as damage assessments continue

The State Disaster Relief Fund applies only to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. State funding cannot replace insurance coverage, which is the primary and best source of protection from storm damage. The fund only addresses the costs of repairing, replacing or restoring property that is the primary residence of the applicant, and cannot be used to help pay insurance deductibles.

We are opening the storm shelter as of 6 pm, Sunday June 21, 2026, as the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Parke County.

- Please be respectful when using the facility. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in a create.

- Enter on the east side of the building. Signs are posted on the door. There is only a portion of the basement open for the shelter.
