Yesterday, I was glad to join the Kensington Labor Day Parade and celebrate the working people who keep Montgomery County moving. Labor Day is a reminder that the rights and protections workers have today were hard fought, and we must continue standing with working families.

I was very concerned to hear about Councilmember Will Jawando’s heart attack this weekend. I’m relieved he received immediate care and is doing well. I’m wishing Councilmember Jawando a full and speedy recovery, and my thoughts are with his entire family.

Earlier today, I joined Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and community partners to celebrate a major milestone for Clean Water Montgomery: $1 million in 2026 grant funding supporting 21 community organizations working to reduce stormwater pollution, improve stream health and protect our waterways.

I am saddened by the death of Gloria Steinem, whose courage and activism helped change the lives of generations of women and made our country a fairer and more equitable place. Her legacy will continue to inspire the work toward full equality.

I welcome the Circuit Court decision upholding the Board of Elections’ signature verification process. The proposed Charter amendment failed to qualify for the ballot, but supporters plan to try again in 2028.

Before European settlers arrived, the land we call home was a primeval forest inhabited by the Piscataway nation. Tribes like the Potomacs, Patuxents & Senecas lived in villages along river valleys, practicing hunting & agriculture.
