🎗️ Support Layla’s Fight Against Leukemia 🎗️

The members of Alert Engine & Hose Company No. 2 of the Rockville Centre Fire Department invite our community to come together in support of the Crews family.

In October 2025, Layla Crews was diagnosed with leukemia after medical testing revealed a low blood count. Layla is the daughter of Sean and Lauren Crews and sister to Kyla. Sean has proudly served the residents of Rockville Centre as a member of the Rockville Centre Fire Department for more than 20 years.

Today, the Rockville Centre Fire Department joins communities across our nation in remembering and honoring the courageous men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is a solemn reminder that freedom is never free. We are forever grateful to those who gave their lives protecting the liberties we enjoy every day.

As we gather with family and friends, we ask everyone to pause and reflect on the true meaning of this day and remember the heroes who never made it home.

May their sacrifice never be forgotten.

Last night, the Rockville Centre Fire Department held its annual swearing-in ceremony, recognizing the Chiefs and elected officers who will lead our department into the year ahead.

We extend our congratulations to our Chiefs as they begin their second term of leadership, continuing their dedication to serving our community with experience, commitment, and pride:

• Chief of Department – Chief Tony Rugolo, Woodland Engine Co. #4
• 1st Assistant Chief – Chief Patrick Healey, Hook, Ladder & Bucket Co. #1
• 2nd Assistant Chief – Chief Brian O’Toole, Reliance Hose Co. #3

We also congratulate Ex-Chief Mark Murray on being sworn in as Fourth Battalion Delegate, representing our department at the Battalion
level.

Last night also recognized all of our elected officers — both newly elected and reelected — whose leadership keeps our department strong and moving forward.

A sincere thank you to Mayor Francis X. Murray and the Village Trustees for joining us and administering the oath of office.

We look forward to a safe, successful, and productive year ahead under your leadership.

🏅 Congratulations to Firefighter Paul O'Brien, Firefighter Evan Lynch, and Firefighter Thomas Forman on receiving the Nassau County Firematic Bronze Medal!
On May 8, 2025, these three members responded to a working building fire at 266-274 N. Centre Ave. with reports of trapped occupants. Through courage, teamwork, and outstanding training, these members located an unconscious victim and removed her to safety.
We are incredibly proud of the dedication and bravery displayed by these members. This recognition is well deserved. 🚒🔥

Yesterday, members of the Rockville Centre Fire Department proudly marched in the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade down Maple Avenue, continuing a long-standing tradition of community pride and camaraderie.

It was an honor to have so many of our Ex Chiefs and Honorary Chiefs join us for this special day. Their leadership, dedication, and years of service are the foundation of everything this department stands for today.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support, cheer us on, and celebrate with us along the parade route. Days like this are a reminder of how strong our community truly is.

Dangerously cold temperatures are expected across Long Island. Extreme cold can pose serious risks to people, pets, and property if proper precautions are not taken.

Please take the following safety measures:
• Limit time outdoors and dress in warm, layered clothing
• Watch for signs of hypothermia and frostbite
• Use space heaters safely and keep them at least 3 feet from combustibles
• Protect exposed pipes from freezing
• Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance
• Bring pets indoors and ensure they have adequate warmth

If you experience any life-threatening situation, call 911.

❄️ Winter Weather Reminder ❄️
With an upcoming snowstorm in the forecast, the Rockville Centre Fire Department reminds residents to stay safe during snow removal.

🧤 Shovel smart: Heavy, wet snow can cause serious injuries and medical emergencies. Dress warmly, take breaks, move small amounts at a time, and don’t overexert yourself.

🚒 Fire hydrant safety:
Please remember to keep at least 3 feet of space around all fire hydrants once snow begins. Quick access helps our firefighters respond faster in emergencies.
