As a champion of public education, I know that providing our children with a quality education is essential to preparing them for a bright future. In this year's State Budget, I helped deliver historic increases in funding for every AD21 school district, ensuring our dedicated educators have the resources they need to empower the next generation of leaders.

I also fought for and secured a five-year pause on the zero-emission school bus mandate, providing much-needed relief to local school districts facing significant financial and logistical challenges. This commonsense victory should also curtail bus companies from escalating costs on their school bus contracts in anticipation of purchasing electric buses. I will continue fighting to keep this pause in effect unless and until the state agencies involved lay out a complete plan to implement EV buses including procurement, building the infrastructure, and ensuring the grid is ready. The cost burden must not be passed on to taxpayers.

I am proud to have delivered both critical funding and practical solutions that allow districts to focus on educating our children to the best of their ability. I will continue working to strengthen our public education system and achieve meaningful results for students and families across our communities and throughout Nassau County.

It was a beautiful day out on Saturday for this year's Relay For Life of Baldwin NY at Baldwin Park, a powerful event dedicated to celebrating cancer survivors, remembering those we have lost, and supporting the ongoing fight against cancer. Although I unfortunately couldn’t be there, I was happy to have my Chief of Staff, Andrea Wilkins, stop by for the occasion.

The day began with a special Survivor Celebration Meal honoring the strength and resilience of cancer survivors, followed by opening ceremonies, survivor and caregiver laps, inspiring speakers, entertainment, and the Luminaria Ceremony.

Relay For Life serves as a reminder that cancer impacts every community and that we are strongest when we stand together in support of one another. The stories shared, the lives honored, and the hope demonstrated throughout the day were truly inspiring.

I am especially grateful for the kindness extended and the offer to light a lantern in honor of Kevin Brady’s life. His courageous battle with cancer ended on 6/12/26. Kevin was my former Legislative Counsel. Following that, in 2023, he became the Long Island Board of REALTORS, Inc. (LIBOR) Government Affairs Director for Queens.

Thank you to Abby and Miguel Melendez, Renee Salmon, the Relay For Life of Baldwin committee, volunteers, survivors, caregivers, sponsors, and all who participated in making this meaningful event possible. Your dedication helps raise awareness, provide support, and advance the mission of creating a world with more birthdays.

Together, we will continue the fight against cancer.

For 75 years, the Baldwin Fire Department's historic 1951 Ahrens-Fox HT pumper has stood as a symbol of service, dedication, and firefighting tradition.

This afternoon, I was honored to join the celebration marking this important milestone and present a Citation of Recognition to Captain Kevin Smith in honor of the brave men and women of the Baldwin Fire Department and their longstanding commitment to protecting our community.

This remarkable piece of firefighting history represents generations of service, sacrifice, and community pride. Thank you to the members of Baldwin FD for preserving this important legacy and sharing it with residents and visitors alike.

Congratulations on 75 years of history, service, and tradition!

One of my favorite events each year is my annual Flag Day Essay and Poster Contest Awards Ceremony. It is always inspiring to see our youngest residents reflect on what the American flag means to them and express those thoughts through writing and illustration.

This year, students in Kindergarten through 6th grade from schools across Assembly District 21 submitted hundreds of essays and posters centered on the theme, "What Does the American Flag Mean to You?" I was truly impressed by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and patriotism reflected in their work. The care and effort that went into each submission made selecting winners no easy task.

Thank you to Rockville Centre Scout Troop 163 Color Guard for opening our program with the Presentation of the Colors.

Thank you to Legislator Debra Mulé for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

It was a pleasure to recognize our 2026 slate of winners and celebrate their achievements alongside their families, elected officials, and educators. Seeing the excitement on the students' faces and the pride of their parents, siblings, grandparents, and some of their principals and teachers, made the day especially meaningful.

I would like to thank the Village of Freeport, Mayor Robert Kennedy, and the staff of the Freeport Recreation Center for hosting this wonderful event and helping us create a memorable experience for all who attended.

I am also grateful to the many local community leaders who joined us - Legislator Debra Mulé, Mayor Francis X. Murray of Rockville Centre, Village of Lynbrook Trustee Michael Habert, Principal Calia Kelly of Centre Ave School, Principal Theresa Macchia and 1st Grade teacher Tracey Reisert of Marion Street School, as well as the families who came out to celebrate these talented and patriotic students and their accomplishments.

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to every student who participated. Your creativity, civic pride, and love for our country give me great hope for our community and our nation.

Happy Flag Day!

I was proud to attend and support the Leukemia Benefit and Fundraiser hosted by the members of Alert Engine & Hose Company No. 2 in Rockville Centre in support of Layla Crews and her family.

Layla was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2025, and since that time, she and her family have shown tremendous strength, courage, and resilience. Her father, Shawn Crews, has dedicated more than 20 years of service to the Rockville Centre Fire Department, and it was truly heartwarming to see the community come together to support Shawn, Lauren, Layla, and their entire family during this difficult journey.

The members of Alert Engine & Hose Company No. 2 organized this special event in recognition of Shawn’s longstanding commitment to serving our community and to help ease the burden on the Crews family as Layla continues her fight against leukemia.

The outpouring of generosity, compassion, and support on display was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Rockville Centre community.

Thank you to the firefighters, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful fundraiser. Your kindness and support will make a difference for the Crews family and demonstrate what it truly means to stand together in times of need.

Please continue to keep Layla and her family in your thoughts and prayers as she continues her courageous fight.

I was happy to attend the 6th Annual Odd Fellows Co****le Tournament at Fireman’s Field in Rockville Centre, where hundreds of community members came together for a day of friendly competition, engagement, fundraising and music by Daddy The Band.

This outstanding event, hosted by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Rockville Centre, brought together dozens of teams, local businesses, restaurants, breweries, and volunteers—all united in support of impactful organizations in our community including SIBSPlace ,the Ryan Patrick O'Shea Foundation, and the Village of Rockville Centre Mayor's Community Fund.

This event was filled with enthusiasm, laughter, and community spirit, proving once again how much can be accomplished when neighbors come together for a good cause. I applaud the dedication of Bob Marzollini, Jeff Boison, and the outstanding members of the ODD Fellows Lodge, whose work year-round to support local charities and individuals in need.

Thanks to the generosity of participants, sponsors, and attendees, every dollar raised will directly benefit these deserving organizations.

Thank you to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Tiffany Balanoff, of Douglas Ellman Real Estate and all of the event sponsors, volunteers, and participants for supporting a wonderful day of service, fun, good times and giving back. Events like this showcase the very best of our community.

One of the things I love most about our community is how quickly people step up to help their neighbors. That spirit was on full display at today's Food Drive to benefit the Our Lady of Peace Food Pantry organized by Quinlan Mattera. Quinlan, an impressive young man, organized this impactful food drive as his Troop 336 Eagle Scout Project.

Residents generously dropped donations of nonperishable food items at a tent Quinlan set up outside of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church.

It was a pleasure to meet Quinlan’s Dad, also a Troop Leader, brothers, Scout Leader Daniel Cullen, and scouts supporting his endeavor. Quinlan’s outstanding promotion of this event encouraged wide-spread participation.

Mary Bradley, Assistant to Sister Barbera Faber, said that this was the best Food Drive they had in 10 years! Donations will go a long way in helping support local families facing food insecurity. Each donation represented a simple act of kindness that will make a real difference.

I was happy to support Quinlan’s project and applaud his leadership and dedication to community service. His commitment to helping others is truly commendable and serves as an example of how young people can create meaningful change.
The success of this event was made possible by the generosity of Lynbrook residents and the greater community, support of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce, and Troop 336.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. When neighbors come together to support one another, we strengthen the entire community.

Today, I was honored to attend the 6th Annual Juneteenth Jubilee hosted by the Malverne School District.
This special celebration brought our community together to honor the history and significance of Juneteenth while celebrating the values of freedom, unity, and progress.

Students, faculty, Superintendent Rianna, PTA leaders, families, neighbors, Mayor Sullivan and Trustee O’Rourke-Schutta gathered for an afternoon filled with talented student performances, including singing, music, poetry, and dance, as well as interactive games and activities that fostered community connection across generations.
Events like the Juneteenth Jubilee remind us of the importance of reflecting on our shared history while celebrating the diversity, culture, and community spirit that make Malverne such a special place.
Congratulations to Assistant Principal Benfante on his retirement and best wishes on beginning an exciting new chapter!

Thank you to the Malverne School District, event organizers, volunteers, performers, and everyone who helped make this day of reflection, joy, and togetherness such a success.

This morning, I was honored to attend the Flag Day and America’s 250th Anniversary Celebration at Oceanside School No. #5.

It was inspiring to join students, families, educators, veterans, and community members as we celebrated our nation’s history, honored the American flag, and reflected on the values of freedom, service, and unity that bring us together.

I was especially proud to recognize the veterans in attendance, those presently in the active military and those brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. It was wonderful to see the students, faculty and families dressed in red, white and blue. It was so special to listen to the students singing patriotic songs so beautifully. Thank you to Scout Troop 230 for proudly presenting the colors during the ceremony.

As we begin commemorating 250 years of American independence, events like these remind us of the importance of civic pride and the role each generation plays in shaping our future.

It was also fascinating to hear about the School No. #5 time capsule from the 1970s that was unearthed, and the exciting plans underway to commemorate this special piece of the school’s history in the near future.

Thank you to the Oceanside School No. #5 community for hosting such a meaningful celebration and for helping keep the spirit of patriotism alive in our community.
