Shout out to our crew Dianne and Faith! They received the Medical Director’s Blood Save Award today. They were the first crew to Administer Whole Blood in Aransas County on Christmas Day, just 3 days after it was available and in service for use. So far we have administered 3 in field administrations. We can’t stress enough the importance of being a blood donor. We are coming in to the busier seasons where blood may be needed. You can help us help you by donating at the local blood drives. Allegiance Mobile Health will be hosting our next one during EMS week on May 20, 2026 2p-4p at 400 Enterprise Blvd, Bldg B, Rockport, Texas.

Allegiance Ambulance - Rockport Station is hosting a blood drive today until 4 PM and we’re proud to recognize them as a vital lifesaving partner in the Coastal Bend.

As of December, Allegiance Mobile Health began carrying whole blood on ambulances based in Rockport and Alice, allowing trauma patients with life-threatening injuries to receive O positive low titer whole blood directly in the field, often up to an hour sooner than one would receive a traditional hospital transfusion.

So far, Allegiance crews have already administered two lifesaving prehospital transfusions, proving that when every minute counts, early access to blood saves lives.

This groundbreaking program increases the need for a strong local blood supply and we’re honored to partner with Allegiance Mobile Health, the largest 911 EMS provider by square mileage in Texas, to continue saving lives across the Coastal Bend.

Thank you, Allegiance Mobile Health for going the extra mile to save lives today! 🩸 Donate today. Lives depend on it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Allegiance Mobile Health Partners with Coastal Bend Blood Center to Carry Whole Blood Onboard Ambulances in South Texas.

Advanced trauma capability allows lifesaving transfusions to begin before hospital arrival

Corpus Christi, Texas (January 2, 2026) Allegiance Mobile Health today announced the addition of prehospital whole blood transfusion capability to its Rockport, and Alice Texas ambulance operations, marking a significant advancement in emergency trauma care for the residents and visitors of the Coastal Bend region.
With this initiative, Allegiance Mobile Health ambulance crews based in Rockport and Alice are now equipped to carry and administer low-titer O negative whole blood to trauma patients suffering from life-threatening hemorrhage. This capability allows transfusion to begin in the field—often up to an hour earlier than would otherwise be possible—during the most critical phase of trauma care.
“Severe bleeding is one of the leading causes of preventable trauma deaths,” said Dr. Bryan Everitt, MD. Chief Medical Officer for Allegiance Mobile Health. “By carrying whole blood on our ambulances, our paramedics can intervene sooner, stabilize patients faster, and dramatically improve their chances of survival before they ever reach the hospital.”
The Life-Saving Advantage of Whole Blood
Whole blood provides a balanced resuscitation product containing red blood cells, plasma, and platelets in a single transfusion. For trauma patients in hemorrhagic shock, this balanced approach supports oxygen delivery, restores circulating volume, and promotes clot formation—key factors in preventing rapid deterioration.
Growing evidence from trauma systems nationwide demonstrates that early blood administration, particularly prior to hospital arrival, is associated with improved patient outcomes, reduced shock progression, and increased survival rates for critically injured patients.
“Every minute counts when a patient is bleeding internally,” said Chief Stephanie Newsom, adding “Starting blood transfusion in the field helps interrupt the cascade of shock and buys valuable time until definitive surgical care is available.” Chief Newsom also added “This new program will add additional demand to the local blood supply. As such, we will be partnering with the Coastal Bend Blood Center to do donation drives in the local communities. We want to do our part to help ensure the Blood Center is able to sustain this critically vital mission in the field.”
Strengthening Trauma Care in the Coastal Bend
The new whole blood program enhances Allegiance Mobile Health’s ability to respond to high-acuity trauma, including major vehicle crashes, penetrating injuries, and severe blunt trauma. Rockport and Alice crews have received specialized training in blood administration protocols, patient selection, monitoring, and strict cold-chain handling to ensure both safety and effectiveness.
This advancement reflects Allegiance Mobile Health’s continued investment in evidence-based, hospital-level interventions delivered directly to patients when they need them most.
“The addition of whole blood to our critical care units in Rockport and Alice is a powerful example of our commitment to innovation and clinical excellence,” said Daniel Gillespie, President of Allegiance Mobile Health. “As the largest 911 EMS provider by square mileage covered in Texas our mission is simple. Bring the right care, at the right time, to the right place—and in trauma care, that place is often the back of an ambulance.”
