NEW MASS NOTIFICATION ALERT is now ready for Spencer County!

RAVE ALERT/SMART911 has replaced Code Red for Weather Alerts and Public Safety Notifications.

SMART911 allows you to create a safety profile of valuable information you want to provide 911 Dispatch and First Responders. You can put as much information as you want or as little, it’s up to you. It’s private and secure and will only be seen by the 911 Dispatch screen when you make the emergency call. SMART911 only asks for information that is relevant to aid in emergency response and will quickly provide responders with important information for medical conditions.

RAVE ALERT allows you to opt in to geo-based severe weather alerts that is directly linked to the National Weather Service when a warning is issued and allows you to receive alerts that affect the location you choose.

This first link is for those who need to create a new account. Click on the link and follow the prompts. It will give you an option of which alerts you want to receive and how you want to receive them.

This link is a login for those who may already have a SMART911 account and you need to update it for Spencer County alerts.
• Login URL: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/login.action?pa=spencercountyema

RAVE and SMART911 are linked and when you create your account, it’s for both options. You decide what information you want to provide for SMART911, but you have to opt-in for the weather alerts and public safety alerts for those notifications.

If you have any questions, contact us at (812) 649-6020 and we will be happy to help. If we don’t know an answer, we will get it for you. We are learning about this new system as well but wanted to get the weather alert option out as quickly as possible.

Severe storms often bring high winds that can damage structures, knock down trees and create dangerous conditions.

Stay indoors during storms and avoid windows. Secure outdoor items before storms arrive.

After storms, watch for debris and downed power lines.

Preparedness helps reduce risk before, during and after severe weather.

Here’s some updated information for tonight’s forecasted storms.
Unfortunately the highest risk for Spencer County is late tonight.
As usual, have multiple ways to receive alerts (watch local stations, weather radio, weather apps).
Do not rely on storm sirens for night time weather events.

Remember Code Red is no longer an option for alerts in our county. A new alert system will be available after this week, and that information will be posted soon.

If there are shelters available tonight, that information will be posted.

Spencer County is under a slight risk for severe weather Monday, April 27, 2026. Based on NWS information as of today, by the time if gets to our county, storms will merge into a linear formation, but still have the potential to produce high winds and a few possible spin up tornados.
But, as we all know, this is subject to change since we are 3 days out, so stay updated and be prepared to make changes to your plans if needed.

The threat for severe weather persists Monday. We remain concerned about the potential of tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail as part of a potentially larger outbreak of severe storms. The earliest timing now appears to be the late afternoon over southeast Missouri moving eastward over the remainder of the area in the early evening. Saturday evening we should start to come in range of our most reliable/highest resolution models and also be able to see the driving features of this so our timing and confidence will likely grow on any specifics by that time. We will update you all as the forecast picture develops.

The Mitigation Plan is required to be updated every 5 years in order for all jurisdictions throughout the county to be eligible for disaster relief funding and grant funding. The projects listed on the plan are intended to lessen the damage from natural disasters.
Below are surveys to be completed that will give IU a broad picture of a county assessment, and they would like to get as much information gathered as possible. Each QR code is designated for a specific group of participants, with the first one being for the public. You simply scan that code and complete the survey.

PRESCRIBED FIRE PLANNED 04.07.26 - Two Lakes Loop Trail temporary closure

We are planning a prescribed fire for Tuesday, April 7 on 1279 acres in Perry County. The Tige/West Celina Unit is located south of I64, within the Indian-Celina Lakes Recreation Area.

The goal of this fire is to promote, restore and maintain forest and woodland by reducing shade tolerant trees and promoting oak-hickory regeneration where appropriate. Fire is the most efficient tool to accomplish this goal.

Ignition is tentatively planned for 10:00 a.m. CDT. The area will be temporarily closed to the public for safety. Watch for signs indicating closed areas. If you encounter smoke on the road, slow down and turn on your headlights.
