DPW TREE TRIMMING NOTICE

The Rockport Department of Public Works will trim roadside trees throughout town as part of routine maintenance and to address public safety concerns.

Crews will trim branches and vegetation to maintain approximately 15 feet of overhead clearance and 3 feet of clearance from the curb, or from the edge of the roadway where there is no curb.

Work will focus on areas where branches or vegetation may obstruct roadways, sidewalks, visibility, or access for emergency and municipal vehicles. Maintaining these clearances helps keep our roadways safe and accessible for motorists, pedestrians, emergency responders, and Town equipment.

Please use caution when approaching DPW crews and equipment and allow them plenty of room to work.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we complete this important roadside maintenance.

There is a water main break on McKay's Drive. There may be no or low water on the street during the repair. Those in the vicinity of McKay's Drive may experience discolored water during and immediately after the repair. Those that do should run the cold tap until it clears. Check before doing laundry.

Due to a recent announcement related to an increase in Gloucester’s bulk disposal fees, we want to remind residents that the Rockport Transfer Station is for Rockport-generated waste only.

An increase in bulk items brought to the Transfer Station means increased hauling costs, which would ultimately raise disposal costs for all Rockport residents.

Rockport residents found disposing of items for Gloucester residents will have their Transfer Station sticker revoked and their Transfer Station privileges terminated..

Please help us keep disposal costs down by using the Transfer Station only for waste generated within Rockport.

This or That: Keeping clutter or creating change? Clear out your space and donate to give back to your community! Textile bins are located at the entrance to our Transfer Station as well as having the ability to schedule pick ups at your home. Keep textiles out of the waste stream by donating.

The Rockport DPW is addressing a water main valve leak in the area of T-Wharf and Broadway. During the repair water service will be interrupted with either low or no flow in the immediate vicinity including portions of Broadway, School St., Dock Square, T Wharf, Bearskin Neck, lower Main St. Please avoid the area near T-Wharf; expect traffic delays and detours. The Public Library will be closed today due to water issue.

COOLING CENTER OPEN - July 14 & 15

Due to the forecasted extreme heat, the Town will open a cooling center at the Police Station Community Room from 7AM to 7 PM, Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15. Food and drink are not provided. The location is not able to accommodate pets. During the extreme heat, please use caution when outside, stay hydrated, and remember to check on elderly neighbors or those that require assistance. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please dial 911.

The Rockport Department of Public Works held another successful Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, where over 100 vehicles responsibly disposed of hazardous waste.

If you missed this event, you can find information about local Household Hazardous Waste collection events online at http://www.rockportma.gov.

Medications can be dropped off at the Rockport Police Department secure drop box or at the Board of Health office in the Town Hall Annex.

Pro tip: Latex and Acrylic paint are water washable and not hazardous. Dry these out and place in the trash. Only oil paint is hazardous.
