Spencer County Proud: Deputy Ethan Peech Graduates the Academy

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Peech on his graduation from the Southwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Evansville on Friday, May 22!

Ethan represents the kind of commitment, service, and hometown values we are proud to have at the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office. As a longtime Spencer County resident and South Spencer High School graduate, Ethan understands the importance of serving and protecting the community he proudly calls home.

Ethan is a college graduate, proudly serves our nation as a member of the Indiana National Guard, and now adds law enforcement academy graduate to his growing list of accomplishments. Service clearly runs in the family—his sister, Aria, serves Spencer County as a dedicated 911 dispatcher with the Sheriff’s Office, and his family has long been part of the local business community in Reo.

Choosing a career in law enforcement requires sacrifice, discipline, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Ethan has already demonstrated those qualities through his education, military service, and successful completion of the academy.

We are excited to see Ethan begin this next chapter in public service and are proud to welcome him as he starts his law enforcement career serving the citizens of Spencer County.

Please help us congratulate Deputy Ethan Peech on this outstanding achievement and wish him continued success!

NEW MASS NOTIFICATION ALERT is now ready for Spencer County!

RAVE ALERT/SMART911 has replaced Code Red for Weather Alerts and Public Safety Notifications.

SMART911 allows you to create a safety profile of valuable information you want to provide 911 Dispatch and First Responders. You can put as much information as you want or as little, it’s up to you. It’s private and secure and will only be seen by the 911 Dispatch screen when you make the emergency call. SMART911 only asks for information that is relevant to aid in emergency response and will quickly provide responders with important information for medical conditions.

RAVE ALERT allows you to opt in to geo-based severe weather alerts that is directly linked to the National Weather Service when a warning is issued and allows you to receive alerts that affect the location you choose.

This first link is for those who need to create a new account. Click on the link and follow the prompts. It will give you an option of which alerts you want to receive and how you want to receive them.
• Registration URL: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=spencercountyema

This link is a login for those who may already have a SMART911 account and you need to update it for Spencer County alerts.
• Login URL: https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/login.action?pa=spencercountyema

RAVE and SMART911 are linked and when you create your account, it’s for both options. You decide what information you want to provide for SMART911, but you have to opt-in for the weather alerts and public safety alerts for those notifications.

If you have any questions, contact us at (812) 649-6020 and we will be happy to help. If we don’t know an answer, we will get it for you. We are learning about this new system as well but wanted to get the weather alert option out as quickly as possible.

Spencer County Student Awarded Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office is proud to recognize Nevaeh Hayden for being selected as a recipient of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship Foundation award for the 2026 academic year.
Nevaeh was awarded a $1,000 scholarship in recognition of her commitment to pursuing higher education and a future in public service. This achievement reflects her academic dedication, strong character, and desire to make a positive impact in her community.
During conversations with Nevaeh, she shared that while attending college, she is considering obtaining her EMT certification—a path that reflects a strong commitment to service and helping others. Interestingly, this mirrors a similar step taken by Chief Deputy Ryan Parsley, who also began his public safety journey with EMT training before pursuing a career in law enforcement. Experiences like these often provide a strong foundation in emergency response, decision-making, and service to others.

The Indiana Sheriffs’ Association represents all 92 county sheriffs across the state and works to promote professionalism, training, education, and public service in law enforcement. Through its scholarship program, the Association helps support students who demonstrate an interest in criminal justice and public service.
Sheriff Sherri Heichelbech praised Nevaeh’s accomplishment and future aspirations.

“Nevaeh’s selection for this scholarship is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are proud to recognize her for this achievement,” said Sheriff Heichelbech. “Her interest in continuing her education while exploring opportunities in emergency services speaks highly of her character and commitment to serving others. We are excited to see where her future takes her.”

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office extends appreciation to the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association for continuing to invest in the next generation of public servants.

Please join us in congratulating Nevaeh Hayden on this well-deserved recognition and wishing her continued success in her educational journey.

Multi-Agency Response Leads to Safe Rescue of Individual in Crisis on Natcher Bridge

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Earlier this evening, a coordinated response involving multiple public safety agencies resulted in the safe rescue of an individual in crisis on the edge of the William H. Natcher Bridge.

Deputies with the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Rockport Police Department, and deputies from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office quickly came together in response to the critical situation. Through calm communication, compassion, and teamwork, Rockport Police Officer Jason Henry successfully made contact with the individual and was able to talk him safely away from the edge of the bridge.

Following the successful intervention, the individual was transported to a local hospital by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office to receive further evaluation and care.

This positive outcome was made possible through the seamless collaboration of law enforcement, fire, and EMS partners, including the Daviess County Fire Departments, Ohio Township Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance Service.

Incidents like this serve as a reminder of the importance of partnership among emergency responders and the impact that compassion, training, and teamwork can have when someone is experiencing a crisis.

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to all responding agencies and personnel for their professionalism, swift response, and commitment to protecting life and serving those in need.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, help is available by calling or texting 988, the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
