For emergency assistance with a sick, injured or abandoned bird please call our emergency dispatch at 361-205-0892 between the hours of 8am to 6pm Mon-Sun. Please do not request rescue on this page or through messenger, we only check this page a few times a day and may miss your post. Please understand our volunteers are not available after hours. (See below for instruction when calling)

Our Mis

sion is to
*Provide a facility for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of wild birds, including a nursery for abandoned eggs and orphaned hatchlings until they are able to survive on their own.
*Bring together volunteers who posses a wide range of skills and experience, that share a compassion for avian welfare and to fill the many roles needed to successfully operate a rescue center.
*Expand public awareness of the need for and benefit of wildlife conservation through educational programs and hands on experiences with the native and migratory birds found in the Coastal Bend. Our physical location is 324 W Third St., Rockport TX 78382

Reporting an Injured Bird:
When calling WRC have the following information available:
*Address and where bird is located at the address (water, street, building, yard, etc.)
*Type of bird
*Visible injury or reason for report
WRC’s dispatcher will advise you on what to do/not to do until a trained rescuer arrives.
*Please do not attempt to rescue birds-of-prey, gulls, herons, egrets, or cormorants. They can inflict serious injuries. Stay calm as to not alarm the bird
Keep the bird in sight until a WRC rescuer arrives

If you have an injured or abandoned bird, place it in a secure box or animal crate. No food or water is generally best. If it's a baby bird keep it warm in the box with a towel and place the box on a heating pad set on low.

Freedom Day times Three! And triple Pay Day for us. The sun was bright, the breeze was gentle and the locations perfect. All of our rehabs flew off strong and happy in their new homes at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.
Serene the Osprey took off without a look back. She landed in tall grass behind a tricolor heron. Then took off as soon as I paused the video. 🤦‍♀️ typical, LOL
Micky looked like a Kite on a mission as he flew over the lake and trees. We watched him until he was just a speck in the sky.
Little Nugget sat in Carmen's hand perfectly content bobbing his head and checking out his new surroundings. As I took him he opened his wings and I told him it's ok. As he flew away I watched all the dragonflies around us. A scrumptious meal for a hungry nighthawk.
If you get a chance go to the ANWR. Its so worth the trip and just simply a beautiful place.

Happy Freedom day Miss Moochie!! She is the beautiful leucistic Brown Pelican that came to us because she was literally going to houses begging for food. We found out Moochie was fed shrimp. How did we find out? She was barfing them up for 2 days. Shrimp are not a food they eat in the wild. The skins/soft shells do not digest at all. Poor girl had a tummy ache. Please if you must feed them only give them whole fish with the skin still on it. When people feed them it teaches them that they don't need to catch their own dinner. Because of that they starve. Even in rehab we do not hand feed rehabbing pelis. We use pools at feeding time. The pelis learn how to locate their food that way.

No matter if the bird we release is a majestic raptor or a common laughing gull it is always so meaningful for us.
This juvenile laughing gull came to us all beat up. When this gull was only a nestling adult gulls had severely pecked it leaving big gashes and open wounds on it's head. After approximately two months it has healed up and become a beautiful juvenile. It was so happy and curious when Mai opened the transport cage. Watching it fly off was an awesome payday for us. ❤️❤️

Does anyone have a pack and play in good shape they no longer need and be willing to donate it? We have 4 greater roadrunner babies needing a safe place we can move in and out doors. Please DM us.

#12 Wing's Tales. I was going to share a video of Kay's Surprise 10 year anniversary party. However, this topic is so important.
The juvenile Crested Caracara, Athena, in this week's Tale is one of many birds we've received lately that people attempted to keep and raise themselves.
This poor girl didn't receive the professional care she needed immediately. Because of that she may lose her 3rd digit (toe) and has another that is fused. She was hand fed for over three weeks and now has little fear of humans. These things make it unlikely she'll be able to be released.
A lesser Nighthawk we received today was fed egg and dog food for almost two weeks. It is a 100% insect eater being fed a carnivorous diet. It has had a broken leg and a shoulder that has a hairline fracture that has been untreated for two weeks.
I could list off 10 other cases we've had like this. Birds that have been euthanized because injuries were not treated in time, metabolic bone disease caused by improper foods given and more.

Please call a licensed rehabber or your local Game Warden, they can assist or help you locate your local Rehabbers. Don't try to care for a wildbird yourself. That bird you think you're helping you may be harming.
