It's National Handcuff Day.
A ramdon fun fact about law enforcement.

National Handcuff Day is on February 20th to commemorate the anniversary of the modern swing-through, ratchet-style handcuff. On this day in 1912, George A. Carney was issued U.S. Patent 1,017,955 for his lighter, adjustable design, which revolutionized law enforcement restraints.

This Valentine’s Day, the Braswell Police Department wanted to show love by giving back to the state of Georgia.
Today, two of our officers — who proudly serve as members of the ICAC GBI Taskforce — participated in a forum focused on raising awareness on human trafficking, sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alumni Association. We’re honored to be part of important conversations that help protect and educate the community. Together, awareness saves lives.

As some of you know, Paulding County Public Safety Agencies have moved to a BRAND NEW RADIO SYSTEM and with that, we’ve received questions as to the public’s ability to listen to “Paulding County Radio Scanner.” One of the features of the new Radio System is encryption, so the ability to monitor our system will no longer be available. But let’s talk about the “why” behind that new change.

With our upgraded radio system officially online, sensitive public safety communications are now protected. What this means to our responders is that operational security for public safety communications is significantly strengthened. Sensitive law enforcement, fire, and EMS traffic is no longer accessible through consumer scanners, which helps protect critical incident details, tactical movements, and personally identifiable information from being monitored in real time. This safeguard is especially important during active or high-risk incidents, where the release of unfiltered information could compromise responder safety or ongoing operations. If you can hear the radio traffic, so can the bad guys! 😉

Paulding County is one of the last counties to move to encryption in our area, with the majority of our neighbors having moved to secure communications years ago. We DO understand the public’s desire to listen to our Public Safety agencies. Our Public Safety Agencies are very good about releasing information in a timely manner, Especially if there is any sort of threat or imminent danger and we encourage everyone to take advantage of our social media and Nixle feeds for the most current information available!
