The EDC is calling on NASA and the Presidential Commission on the U.S. Space Academy to establish the newly announced Federal Academy right here on Florida's Space Coast.

In a letter to NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, EDC President & CEO Lynda Weatherman made the case: our region's unmatched concentration of space infrastructure, military and civil space capabilities, commercial activity, research institutions, and skilled workforce make it the natural home for this mission.

"There is no better place to launch this mission than Florida's Space Coast," said Weatherman. "Few regions have played a more significant role in America's journey of exploration, innovation, and discovery. The case for the Space Coast is grounded in its extraordinary capabilities that exist here today, creating an environment unlike any other in the nation"

The EDC was honored to join Senator Ashley Moody at a recent press conference in support of the introduction of the Space Ready Act, proposed legislation aimed at strengthening the infrastructure needed to sustain America's leadership in space while driving long-term economic growth.

During the event, EDC Vice President of Business Development Edgar Campa-Palafox emphasized that infrastructure investment is essential to expanding the Space Coast's economic capacity. As launch activity continues to reach record levels, modernizing and expanding spaceport infrastructure would help attract new private investment, support the growth of existing aerospace companies, and create opportunities for manufacturers, suppliers, construction firms, technology companies, logistics providers, and entrepreneurs throughout the region.

With the global space economy expected to exceed $1 trillion in the coming years, strategic investment in critical infrastructure will be essential to ensuring Florida's Space Coast remains the premier location for companies to innovate, manufacture, and launch while creating high-wage jobs and strengthening America's space industrial base.

The EDC appreciates Senator Ashley Moody's leadership in introducing the Space Ready Act and her continued commitment to advancing policies that enhance the competitiveness of Florida's Space Coast and create lasting economic opportunity for our region.
