Knox Maine Democrats

Knox Maine Democrats The Knox County Democratic Committee in Maine supports Democratic candidates in our County. Knox County Democrats' activities do cost money, however.

All politics are local, as Tip O'Neill observed in his 1993 book of that title and many others have noted before him. While we Dems love to sit around and decry the buffoonery that Washington presents us with each day, the KCDC and local Democratic volunteers are primarily focused upon the local political process, working to identify strong local candidates for all state and county positions, and to provide services that help smooth the path in their local campaigns. Typical services include

Gathering and validating voter registration lists and making them sortable to facilitate campaign needs
Fabricating signs and campaign buttons and making them available to candidates at low cost
Establishing and staffing a county campaign headquarters during the campaign period, through which volunteer efforts and candidate needs can be coordinated
Assembling and mailing multi-candidate campaign mailings and placing newspaper advertisements
Organizing get-out-the-vote activities as the election nears

Notice that campaign funding is not on the list. While we work to find great candidates who can best represent the interests of their constituents, and we do work on tasks that help our slate of candidates, the county committees are constrained to avoid activities that benefit individual candidates unless they are specifically designated as cash or in-kind contributions. Most state senator and state representative races are publicly funded under Maine's Clean Election Act that strictly limits help from outside organizations or individuals. County, Federal and most gubernatorial races are financed conventionally and are dependent upon third party contributions to cover campaign costs. Our biennial campaign budgets exceed $25,000. Many of the county committee's efforts are focused on accumulating these funds. In addition to direct solicitations and donations, we also raise money by operating food booths at local fairs; by making campaign buttons and lawn signs that we sell at a profit; and through local KCDC activities such as our Haskell-Mayo Club, our annual lobster bake, concerts, auctions, etc. All of these activities are made possible through the efforts of many enthusiastic Democrats, volunteering their time and skills to make them happen and having fun doing it. I appreciate Steve Betts coverage of the Weekend of Action Launch!

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson made a campaign stop Saturday morning, Sept. 12 in the city to call for electing candidates who will get government to work for the people and not the billionaires.

25 years ago today, our nation was changed forever.

We remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and the heroes – first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans – who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We will always remember. 🇺🇸

The Saturday noon gathering of The Audacity: Creative Action Together crowd in Rockland. Fantastic energy from this group of about 200 patriots. I spoke with people and invited them to join us next Saturday to meet Troy Jackson and go out canvassing for Democratic candidates across the county. I was not able to make my way across the group because too many great conversations slowed me down. Some great talk with military veterans in the mix!

Join us next Saturday at 10 to meet Troy and other Knox candidates at the Knox Dems HQ at 33 Park St in Rockland. .

Troy Jackson and Hannah Pingree had a great and well attended fundraiser at Rockport Marine last night. It was good to see the enthusiasm of the audience and great to have Troy and Hannah speak and answer questions. Lots of Good Dems present and willing to support the next US Senator from Maine. All While Susan Collins relies on funding from Elon Musk and the Billionaire Brigade.

I was happy to join a house party in support of Hannah Pingree becoming Maine's nest governor. An enthused crowd in a lovely setting in Tenants Harbor, Hannah was introduced by Ambassador Susan Rice with an eloquence I have rarely seen. And Hannah painted us all a picture of the kind of governor she will be, The executive Maine needs to meet the future. I look forward to voting for this woman.

Vote Troy Jackson; A write-in vote for Graham Platner is a vote for Susan Collins.

You’ve seen the headlines suggesting that Graham Platner is running a write-in campaign for Senate and urging Platner fans to add his name first on the ballot. I might guess who is behind it, but I promise you, it is not Graham Platner! I was in touch with him yesterday. He did not submit his name as a write-in candidate and does not support writing his name onto the ballot. The clear goal of this scam is to divide the progressive base and set Democrats and Independents against each other. Their intent is to ensure a Susan Collins victory.

Putting Graham Platner first, as a write-in on the ballot for US Senate is like setting fire to your ballot; your vote will not count. If Graham is your first choice and your vote is tossed out, it will make it easier for Susan Collins to meet the 50% threshold since the pool of non-Republican voters in the first round, will be smaller. I have called the Secretary of State Elections staff twice and received conflicting information. I am waiting another call back with a more considered analysis.

If you wish to lodge a protest vote, vote Troy Jackson first and Graham as second choice. Again, I was in touch with Graham Platner and he has no intentions on this election other than to ensure Susan Collin’s defeat.
Let us help Troy Jackson win in November and give Susan Collins the retirement party she so richly deserves.

It is time to vote for change; elect Troy Jackson to the Senate. Let’s take back the US Senate so it can provide the checks and balances on the President, following the Constitutional mandates.
