The U.S. Coast Guard "Keeper Class" buoy tender ABBIE BURGESS (WLM-553) was christened in 1998 and is named in honor of Maine lighthouse heroine Abbie Burgess Grant.

Abbie served at Matinicus Rock (1853 to 1875...she was officially appointed second assistant keeper from 1861 to 1875) and Whitehead (assistant keeper from 1875 to 1890) light stations during her amazing career, which has been an inspiration to countless people over the years.

The USCG cutter is homeported in Rockland, Maine.
