Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day– elder abuse includes neglect, abandonment, financial exploitation, or any harm targeted at an older individual due to age or disability.

Nearly 90% of elder abuse cases are committed by family members, typically spouses and adult children.

We are dedicated to supporting survivors of elder abuse in our community. Statewide, organizations like the Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention, local and regional Triads, Elder Abuse Institute of Maine, and Legal Services for Maine Elders provide crucial assistance to Maine’s older adults facing abuse and exploitation. (Statistics from the National Center on Elder Abuse.)

We are so excited to be attending Pride this year in Bath, Damariscotta, Waldoboro, and Rockland!

We love the chance to talk about our work supporting people of all genders and sexualities and we are proud to support LGBTQ+ survivors, because we know abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of their gender, sexuality, or the make-up of their relationship.

All people deserve to be treated with respect when seeking support and resources, and to have their identities celebrated.
