Cannon Township Planning Commissioner Opening

The Cannon Township Planning Commission has an opening for a Planning Commissioner. The Planning Commission is responsible for development and implementation of the Township’s Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance. It is through the implementation of the Master Plan that the community addresses issues created by land development within the township. The Planning Commission is tasked with a fair and consistent balancing of landowner interests with the long-term vision for the community, protection of the environment, assurance that development is adequately served by utilities and the need to achieve the quality of life desired by residents.

The seven-member Planning Commission is required by law to meet once a month a minimum of four times per year. Additional monthly meetings are frequently held as development warrants. Subcommittees are formed as needed for larger projects. A small stipend is paid for each meeting attended. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.

The position is open to all registered voters who are residents of Cannon Township. Appointments are made by the Supervisor. Interested applicants should e-mail a letter of interest and résumé to Jim Alles, Cannon Township Clerk, at [email protected] by July 13th, 2026. No previous planning experience is necessary, just an interest in helping better one’s community.

The Current PC Board Includes: Jeff Twyman, (Chair), Ben Masterson, Peter Prina, Jessica Gutowski-Slaydon (Township Board Representative), Rita Proctor, Aileen Liepprandt.

New Voter ID Cards have been mailed out to Voters registered in Cannon Township due to the change in permanent polling location to the new Cannon Township Community Center which is being built in the Balk Family Park at 7601 Belding Rd NE, Rockford, MI 49341.
When reviewing your information on the new Voter ID Card, pay attention to your Precinct #. We recently changed precinct boundaries when we consolidated from six precincts to four precincts.
A new Cannon Township Precinct Map is available on our website and will be on display at the polling location.
Note that you do NOT need to bring your new Voter ID Card to the polling location to vote.
We do anticipate a large turnout for both the August Primary and the November General Election. You may wish to take advantage of the ability to vote an Absent Voter Ballot, giving you the opportunity to research any choices on the Ballot and SKIP THE LINE by mailing in your Absent Voter Ballot or dropping it off at the Cannon Township Office. There is a secure Dropbox located west of the building and one inside the Vestibule of the Main Entrance. When the Township Office is open, there is another Dropbox in the Lobby.
To request an Absent Voter Ballot, go to

Family Feature: The Arcidiacono Family

“For Jenna and Maurizio Arcidiacono, their Cannon Township story began with a shared last name and a chance meeting while working at the Tre Cugini restaurant. A customer noticed their uncommon surname, made an introduction, and mentioned that his neighbor in Lake Bella Vista was about to sell his home.”
