Our social media accounts are maintained and monitored by City staff during regular business hours. The primary purpose of our social media platforms is to disseminate information of interest to Rockford
residents. We welcome your comments and questions to the information posted here. Additionally, our page has an option for direct messaging questions or comments of a general nature. Urgent questions and concerns should be addressed by contacting the appropriate authority at Rockford City offices. We encourage comments and interactions from residents and visitors. We will be courteous and professional in our postings and ask that you do the same. Reasonable arguments for opposing viewpoints are appropriate to share. However, the City reserves the right to delete or censor comments with content that:
• Contains a personal attack, insult, racial slur or any other derogatory term
• Is harassing, intimidating or other forms of bullying
• Is off-topic and unrelated to the original post
• Uses foul language or is sexually explicit, including “masked” profanity
• Promotes hate or discrimination of any kind
• Is blatant spam, including advertising commercial services or products
• Encourages illegal activity or violates and local, state or federal law
• Endorses candidates or a particular stance on an active ballot measure or specific legislation
• Contains random or unintelligible text
• Compromises the safety or security of the public or public systems
• Contains images, videos or links to sites that do not conform to these guidelines
• Contains viruses or computer code
We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium; however, our moderation capabilities are not. We may not see every inappropriate comment right away. We trust in the maturity of our community to ignore personal attacks and negative speech or respond politely. The City is not responsible for settling disagreements with users, nor will a comment be removed solely at the request of a user. Repeated violations of the above policy may cause the author to be permanently blocked from the City of Rockford’s social media platforms. Our goal is to share and exchange information with those interested in topics relating to the City of Rockford community and our policy is to accept the majority of comments made to our page.
