Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I cosponsor SB2270, a bill that ensures that deputy county medical examiners and deputy coroners are formally recognized as first responders under Illinois law for purposes of employer-provided mental health counseling insurance coverage.

This measure closes the gap by extending the existing protections already available to county coroners and medical examiners to their deputies as well. It recognizes the important public safety role these professionals serve our communities with and ensures they receive fair health coverage benefits.

This bill passed both Houses and heads to the governor’s desk for consideration.

Every day, the men and women of the Winnebago County Coroner's Office show up for our community during some of life's most difficult moments. We are proud to share our 2023–2025 Annual Report as a testament to that dedication and our ongoing commitment to transparency, professionalism, and care.

This week, April 12–18, is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

As Coroner, I know dispatchers are often the very first point of contact in an emergency. They’re the ones answering the call, speaking to people in panic, fear, and crisis, and working to get help where it needs to go.

We don’t see what they experience day in and day out, but we know it’s not easy. The calls they take, minute by minute, are things most of us will never fully understand.

They are the steady voice in the middle of chaos, and an essential part of every emergency response.

It’s not a job that always gets recognized, but it should.

We are truly grateful for what you do for our community, and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

Thank you, Chief Deputy Lane, for your care and compassion in the Baby Noah case.

For this week’s Partner’s Against Crime, we remember the story of “Baby Noah,” a boy who would be a teenager today if fate hadn’t cut his string so soon.
