Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Earlier today a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. Unfortunately the patient had to be airlifted.

Through continuous collaboration and training with UNC Carolina Air Care, Cape Fear Valley Mobile Integrated Healthcare, Hoke County Sheriff's Office, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol ultimately led to a seamless operation from start to finish. Thank you to all involved.

AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL‼️

Please refrain from traveling unless absolutely necessary. Remaining at home not only ensures your safety but also aids emergency responders and snowplows by keeping the roads clear. Fewer vehicles allow these teams to operate more efficiently.

By staying off the roads, you reduce the risk of accidents and lessen the strain on emergency services.

Stay off the roads, but if you HAVE to venture out:
- Ensure you give adequate space to snowplows and emergency vehicles.
- Maintain a safe distance and reduce your speed on icy roads.
- Before you head out, check road conditions at DriveNC.gov.

⚠️ ⚠️ Current Road Conditions ⚠️ ⚠️

RESPONSE TIMES WILL BE DELAYED.

Primary and secondary roads are snow covered in the district. With the packed snow on the roads from people traveling on them and the temps dropping today they will become icy as the day progresses.

NCDOT is doing all they can with the resources they have. Please only travel if completely necessary.

Everyone should have enough bread to eat and milk to drink to remain cozy.

Thank you and be safe.

The emergency shelter at the Robert A. Wright Agricultural Building has closed. Throughout the storm, only one (1) occupant arrived at the shelter due to a home generator failure. The individual has left safely.

Here is an update from Hoke County Emergency Services.

Please be safe.

❄️ Winter Weather Reminder ❄️

As snow begins to move into our area, Rockfish Fire Department and all Hoke County Emergency Services is asking everyone to limit travel on roads unless it is absolutely necessary.

Snow-covered roads can become dangerous quickly, even for experienced drivers. Driving on snow covered roads that have not been plowed will pack the snow and create icy roads.

Staying home helps keep everyone safe and allows first responders and road crews to do their jobs more effectively.

If travel is necessary:
• Slow down and use extreme caution
• Maintain plenary of distance between vehicles
• Bridges and overpasses will ice before road
• Give emergency vehicles plenty of room

For the most up to date information monitor local forecasts as conditions can change rapidly.

Thank you and be safe.

⚠️ ⚠️ Please Read ⚠️ ⚠️

If you encounter a vehicle this weekend on the side of the road and it is marked with a three (3) foot of crime or fire scene tape affixed to the exterior door mirror on the side of the vehicle closest to the roadway, this will indicate the vehicle has been checked for occupants and eliminates the duplication of search efforts for stranded motorists.

Thank you and be safe.
