PSA: Just incase you missed our Mayor's post earlier this week, and just incase you missed the clearly marked red painted curb and signs that state "Fire lane no parking anytime", we would like to inform the public that this area is designated as a no parking/standing zone as it blocks the ingress/egress our Fire Department personnel who need to be unobstructed while responding to emergencies. The Rockdale Police Department has begun issuing citations for violations and will continue to do so as needed daily.

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement was honored to present the State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award for Valor to Officer Lindsey Jacobs, Officer Johnathan Richardson and Officer Shelby Rodriguez of the Rockdale Police Department.

The trio of officers responded to a house fire in which they retrieved an elderly woman and provided aide. The swift and decisive action by all three officers preserved the life of the individual.

On July 24, 2026 at 11:45 am, The Rockdale Police Department received a request from the Milam County Sheriff's Office to assist in locating an alleged suicidal male driving a 2012 Toyota Tacoma pickup. Rockdale Police Officers located the individual in his vehicle in the 300 block of E. Cameron Avenue. Upon attempting contact with the driver, later identified as Edward Wischan III, 41, of Killeen, Texas, he used his vehicle to flee east on Cameron Avenue at a high rate of speed. As Rockdale Officers pursued Wischan, he failed to control his speed and collided with the rear of another eastbound vehicle. The collision caused Wischan to lose control of his vehicle, cross the westbound lane, and collide with a tree before coming to a stop in a wooded area in the 2200 block of East US Hwy 79, east of the Rockdale city limits. Wischan was ultimately transported by PHI air ambulance to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where he will be treated for various injuries sustained in the crash. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the second vehicle. Wischan faces criminal charges for Evading Arrest/Detention Using a Vehicle, a 3rd degree Felony. The Rockdale Police Department would like to thank our partners at the Milam County Sheriff’s Office for their immediate response and assistance, as well as the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety who will conduct an independent crash investigation.
