IMPORTANT INFO!
Please share!!

The City of Rock Valley will be holding a public informational meeting regarding the FEMA Home Buyout Program on Thursday, June 4th following the City Council meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an update on the status of the City’s buyout application, explain the next steps in the process, and answer questions from property owners.

Meeting times:
• 6:00 PM — English presentation
• 7:00 PM — Presentation with translator available

The City’s application is currently in the final stage of FEMA review, and we are continuing to prepare for the next steps so the process can move as quickly as possible once the application is approved.

Property owners are also encouraged to begin bringing their property abstracts to City Hall so they can be updated ahead of time. The more abstracts that are updated before the project is obligated, the faster the process can move forward once our application is obligated by FEMA. The City will provide a receipt when abstracts are turned in.

In addition, the City is asking property owners to sign Right of Entry forms that will allow inspections to be completed for asbestos testing as part of the buyout process.

All affected property owners are strongly encouraged to attend. Your cooperation will help keep this process moving forward.

If you have questions, please contact City Hall in person at 1303 10th Street or by phone at (712) 476-5707.

The City would like to remind the 15 property owners in the flood buyout areas who maintained their lawns last year that lawn maintenance remains the responsibility of the property owner until the buyout process is completed.

Property owners do have the option to sign a waiver form allowing the City to spray the yard to help prevent grass and w**d growth until the buyout process is finalized. If the waiver is signed, property owners will still be required to mow the lawn one final time before the City assumes maintenance responsibilities.

Please note that City ordinance requires grass, w**ds, and brush in residential areas to be maintained at a height of no more than 8 inches. If a property owner does not maintain their lawn and does not sign a waiver allowing the City to perform maintenance, the City may mow or abate the property as allowed by ordinance. The costs associated with mowing or abatement will be assessed to the property owner and may be certified to property taxes if unpaid.

If you are interested in signing a waiver form or have questions, please contact City Office (712) 476-5707.)

City Park Update:
Unfortunately, the City Park has recently experienced acts of vandalism, which is disappointing and frustrating for our community. The park is here for everyone to enjoy, and we need the public’s help to protect this important community asset.

If you witness suspicious activity or see anyone vandalizing park property, please report it to local law enforcement or City Hall as soon as possible. Even small pieces of information can help.

The City is also reviewing the possible installation of security cameras in and around the park to help deter future vandalism and hold those responsible accountable.

We appreciate everyone who takes pride in our community and helps keep our park safe, clean, and enjoyable for families, children, and visitors. Together, we can ensure the park remains a place our community can continue to enjoy and be proud of.
