Sheriff’s office announces 2026 civilian fi****ms training schedule

SWEETWATER COUNTY, Wyo. – The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce its 2026 civilian fi****ms and concealed carry training schedule, offering local residents an opportunity to build safe, responsible, and practical fi****ms skills.

This year’s program includes three basic training opportunities, including one female-only class in June. Each class includes classroom instruction and practical range exercises focused on safe firearm handling, responsible ownership, and foundational shooting skills.

Topics covered include fi****ms familiarization, safety, grip, stance, sight picture, trigger control, holster selection, and secure fi****ms storage. The classes are designed to satisfy Wyoming’s training requirements for a concealed carry permit.

Training Dates:

Female-only class
Classroom instruction: Thursday, June 18, 2026, 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Range session: Saturday, June 20, 2026, 8 a.m. – noon or 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

General classes
Saturday, July 18, 2026, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Each class requires a $30 registration fee. Participants must be at least 21 years old and must bring a well-maintained personal firearm, a suitable belt or paddle holster, eye and ear protection, at least 100 rounds of ammunition, and weather-appropriate clothing.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the men and women who never made it home.

Memorial Day is more than the beginning of summer or a long weekend. It is a reminder that freedom has always carried a cost paid by ordinary Americans willing to do extraordinary things for others.

On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office, today, we honor those who gave their lives in service to this country and remember the families who continue to carry that sacrifice every day.

Their courage will never be forgotten.
Their service will never be taken for granted.

We remember.
We honor.
We are forever grateful.

🇺🇸🕯️ Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause.

Police Week is not about patting ourselves on the back. It is not about asking for praise, attention, or recognition.

It is about remembering.

We remember those who came before us, the men and women who wore the badge long before we did, and who carried the weight of this work with courage, humility, and resolve.

We remember those we have lost along the way, officers who left for their shift and did not come home, families who gave more than anyone should ever be asked to give, and communities forever changed by their sacrifice.

And we think about those who will come after us, the next generation of peace officers who will inherit not just the badge, but the responsibility that comes with it.

A badge is never only metal. It is trust. It is duty. It is service. It is a promise passed from one generation to the next. 💙

Today, we honor the fallen, stand with their families, and recommit ourselves to serving in a way worthy of those who came before us.

We will remember.

🤝 A heartfelt thank-you to Commerce Bank of Wyoming for once again hosting its annual Law Enforcement Appreciation BBQ during Police Week.

This has become a meaningful tradition for law enforcement across Sweetwater County, bringing together officers, deputies, troopers, agents, dispatchers, and staff from agencies throughout our community.

The meal is always appreciated, but the message behind it means even more.

Police Week is a time to reflect on service, sacrifice, and the responsibility that comes with wearing the badge. It is also a reminder that public safety is built through partnership, trust, and community support.

To the team at Commerce Bank of Wyoming and Western Wyoming Beverages, thank you for taking the time to prepare and serve a home-cooked meal and refreshments, for opening your doors, and for making local law enforcement feel seen and appreciated.

From the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office, Rock Springs Police Department, Green River Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Wyoming DCI, Wyoming Office of Homeland Security, and all who serve across our county, thank you for continuing to support those who serve!

We are grateful for your kindness, your generosity, and your continued commitment to this community. 💙

💙 Police Week is a good reminder that service is never one-sided.

This week, we were reminded of that in a few different ways.

Nell's Coffee stopped by with fresh cinnamon rolls for our deputies. Walmart stopped by with pizza, snacks, goodies, and supplies. And after a group of our deputies had the privilege of serving as pallbearers at a funeral yesterday, Vase Funeral Chapels stopped by with donuts from Cowboy Donuts as a kind thank-you.

Different gestures. Same message.

Community matters.

We do not do this work for recognition, and Police Week is not about asking for attention. But moments like these remind us that public safety is built on relationships, trust, and people showing up for one another.

Sometimes service looks like answering a call.

Sometimes it looks like standing beside a family on one of the hardest days of their lives.

And sometimes, it looks like a local business walking through the door with cinnamon rolls, snacks, donuts, and a simple message: we see you, and we appreciate you.

To everyone who continues to support the men and women of this office and our mission, thank you.

We are grateful to serve this community, and even more grateful to be part of it. 💙

🩺💙 Today, on National Nurses Day, we want to recognize a group of professionals whose work often happens quietly, behind secure doors, but whose impact is felt every day.

To our detention center medical staff and nurses: thank you.

Nursing in a jail is not easy work. It requires clinical skill, good judgment, calm under pressure, compassion, boundaries, patience, and the ability to care for people who may be scared, angry, hurting, withdrawing, detoxing, in crisis, or simply in need of someone steady and professional.

Our nurses help keep our detention center safe, humane, and medically responsible. They assess, treat, monitor, document, communicate, and respond, often in situations most people never see and few fully understand.

In other words, they are basically superheroes in scrubs. No cape needed.

We are grateful for the work they do, the professionalism they bring, and the care they provide every single day.

Happy National Nurses Day, and thank you for serving our facility and our community so well!

🚓🐾 May the 4th be with you!

No galaxy far, far away. Just Sweetwater County.

K9 Sgts. Apollo, Deena, and Arry are out working alongside deputies, tracking suspects, locating evidence, and helping keep our communities safe.

And then there’s K9 Sgt. Daisy.

Daisy serves inside the detention center, working with juvenile offenders, helping de-escalate tense moments, build trust, and create connection where it’s needed most.

Different roles. Same mission.

Training, teamwork, and showing up when it counts.

No lightsabers needed.

🚨 National Correctional Officers Week
May 3 to 9, 2026

This week, we recognize the men and women who serve behind secure doors and largely out of public view, carrying a responsibility most people never fully see.

Corrections officers play a critical role in public safety. They maintain order, safety and security in an environment where tensions can rise quickly and decisions matter. They also interact with people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, often on someone’s worst day, and are expected to do so with steadiness, respect and sound judgment.

The work is demanding. It requires patience, awareness, professionalism and the ability to stay composed under pressure. It also requires a level of consistency that often goes unnoticed. The routine, the structure and the daily presence are what keep a detention center running safely. 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

Today’s corrections professionals are not only focused on safety and security, but also on communication, mental health awareness and recognizing the human factors that come into play in a detention setting. That work matters for the individuals in custody, the staff working alongside them and the communities they return to.

To our sworn staff serving the Sweetwater County Detention Center: thank you for the work you do, the professionalism you bring and the responsibility you carry. Your commitment does not go unnoticed. 💙

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fake Wyoming Court Notice / QR Code Scam

We have been made aware of a fraudulent “court enforcement” notice being sent by text message. The notice appears official at first glance, using the State of Wyoming seal, court-style language, urgent payment demands, and a QR code, but it is not legitimate.

The fake notice claims to involve traffic violations, toll evasion, parking violations, license suspension, collections, and other court action. These are scare tactics designed to pressure people into scanning a QR code or making a payment.

Please remember:

❌ Do not scan suspicious QR codes
❌ Do not click links or call numbers from unsolicited messages
❌ Do not pay based on a text or unofficial notice
✅ Verify court matters directly through official court contacts
✅ Report suspicious messages to local law enforcement

Scammers often use official-looking logos, fake case numbers, court names, and urgent threats to make their messages look real. When in doubt, slow down and verify before you act.

Please share this to help protect others in our community!
