Congratulations to each of these candidates and their teams on hard-fought victories.
We also want to thank Burt Jones, Derrick Dooley, John F. Kennedy, Vernon Jones, Fred โBubbaโ Longgrear, and Bobby Mehan for stepping forward and putting themselves before the voters. Running for office is not easy. It requires sacrifice from candidates and their families, and every person who enters the arena deserves our respect.
Thank you to the volunteers, county party leaders, poll workers, poll watchers, door knockers, phone bankers, sign crews, donors, and grassroots activists who poured their time, energy, and hearts into these campaigns. You are the backbone of our party.
For the people who put their whole hearts on the line and did not come out victorious, this is the hard part.
Itโs hard to move on from disappointment. Itโs hard to immediately put your heart behind another candidate, especially after months of competition and strong disagreements. Itโs easy to let frustration linger and to focus on what divides us.
This is the moment when we choose grace.
Grace for our opponents. Grace for our friends we may be upset with. Grace for ourselves when we fall short.
It takes courage, conviction, humility, and sometimes compromise to embrace those we were competing against and turn them into friends and allies.
This is where we turn disappointment into determination. We cannot allow division to take root, or we let the enemy win, before the battle has even begun.
We must forgive. We must unite. We must march to November together. I have faith in us.
Because only together can we truly win.
Now the the runoff is behind us. The mission ahead is bigger than any one campaign, any one candidate, or any one race.
Letโs get to work.
With Gratitude and Grace,
Jackie Harling
14th Congressional District Republican Party Chairman
