Atchison County Transitions to Everbridge for Emergency Alerts Following a CodeRed Cybersecurity Breach
Atchison County, MO – On November 10, 2025, Atchison County was notified that CodeRed, the company previously used for public alert and notification services, experienced a cybersecurity breach. Despite ongoing efforts, CodeRed has not yet been able to restore full service. CodeRed has thus far failed to provide our community information back to us; therefore, we need the public to sign up as soon as possible with Everbridge.
While emergency communications to citizens have remained fully operational, the county temporarily lost access to non-emergency messaging functions. These daily communications are vital for coordinating with responders on matters such as controlled burns, ambulance staffing, and law enforcement support.
To ensure reliable service moving forward, the Atchison County Commission signed an agreement on November 13, 2025, with Everbridge, a nationally recognized leader in alert and notification systems. Everbridge serves communities across the United States—from small counties like Atchison, Nemaha, Richardson, and Otoe, to major organizations including Cooper Nuclear, multiple state governments, and federal agencies such as the Pentagon and the White House.
“Everbridge’s proven track record, competitive pricing, and commitment to helping us restore communications quickly made them the right choice for Atchison County,” said Rhonda Wiley, Emergency Management/911 Director.
County officials are currently working to implement and learn the new system. Citizens are encouraged to sign up immediately for the new alert and notification platform at:

Important Note
Atchison County Emergency Management/911 has never lost the ability to issue emergency notifications. Backup agreements with neighboring Nebraska counties, the State of Missouri, and direct access to IPAWS ensure that emergency alerts can always be delivered to citizens. The transition to Everbridge simply restores the convenience of both emergency and non-emergency messaging and enhances overall reliability.
