We are the volunteer branch of the United States Coast Guard. 9-11 was formed after two flotillas merged.

Due to a shortage of available lock staff, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, announces the auxiliary lock at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, will remain closed during the 2026 summer season. Recreational boaters will have access to the main lock chamber to navigate between pools.

Did you know that an emergency locator beacon can save your life? Operating on 406 MHz, an ELB can let the Coast Guard know you need assistance on the water even when out of cell phone and radio range.

CDR Frank Erickson received a Commendation for conducting the first rescue operation utilizing a helicopter in 1944. This was the precursor to a mission the Coast Guard does every day from Air Stations across the country!
