Today we’re talking about deer hearts! ❤️🦌Well, not exactly, but deer hearts are actually heart-shaped clam fossils known scientifically as a steinkern, which is German for “stone kernel.”

You won’t want to miss our exciting Fossil Fanatics Family Day happening this Saturday, Sep. 19, from 10-4.

We're excited to hear a Zoom presentation by Dr. Charity Owings who has conducted research at the original Body Farm at University of Tennessee. She will discuss how forensic detectives use insects to determine timelines as well as other clues in crime scene investigation. The presentation will be held in the classroom with a Q&A to follow.

🪲Join Dr. Charity Owings, forensic entomologist, to learn about the importance of insects in solving murders and other crimes at Body Farms: Nature's Detectives this Sun, Sep. 13 from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Dr. Owings, who has conducted research at the original Body Farm at the University of Tennessee, will discuss how forensic detectives use insects to determine timelines as well as other clues in crime scene investigation. Dr. Owings’ presentation will be via Zoom in the Museum’s classroom and will include a Q & A opportunity.
