For 2025, Lesslie Fire-Rescue received the Fire Safe Community designation from Fire Safe Carolina. The program aims to reduce fire-related injuries—decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters alike—and promote consistent fire safety messaging and stress the importance of accurate fire scene data. Fire Safe South Carolina was launched in 2017 in a partnership between the Firefighters' Association, South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, South Carolina Fire Marshal Association, South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Fire Investigators, and South Carolina State Fire.

As a result of the hard work, commitment, and dedication of our firefighters we were able to receive this designation for the first time. Firefighters Gary Morris and Andrew Ellis were at the South Carolina Fire Conference to accept the designation plaque.

We are working hard to obtain this designation for 2026 and future years.

May 4th is known as the day for Star Wars fans but did you also know today is International Firefighters Day? May 4th was chosen as International Firefighters' Day as it is the feast day of St. Florian, the Patron Saint of Firefighters. It's a day to thank firefighters worldwide for their extraordinary commitment, exceptional courage, sacrifice, bravery, and for their selflessness to the service of others.

Today, and everyday we acknowledge the courage, commitment, and dedication our firefighters do protecting the Lesslie/Catawba community as well as firefighters across the world for their service to their communities.

Whether full-time, part-time or volunteer, these brave men and women are always willing to serve their communities.

Tomorrow at 7am, the The South Carolina Forestry Commission will be lifting the burn ban for York County. Please use caution when burning and remember you can’t burn trash or debris, you can only burn what has grown on your property like trees and tree branches.

SCFC TO LIFT BURNING BAN FOR 12 UPSTATE COUNTIES WEDNESDAY

The South Carolina Forestry Commission will lift the State Forester's Burning Ban for 12 counties in the Piedmont region of the state, effective at 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 29.
The counties coming off the burning ban are Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union and York (see map).

The statewide burning ban remains in effect. Despite some scattered areas in the northern Midlands receiving up to a half-inch or slightly more Saturday, most of the state received no measurable or effectual rainfall.
A widespread precipitation deficit of ~20 inches continues to intensify the ongoing drought, and generally, heavily depleted subsoils require many weeks of consistent, slow-soaking rain to recover. While rising relative humidities and decreasing winds may ultimately prompt the lifting of the burning ban, fire danger will still be elevated for some time because of drought conditions.
Please be advised that outdoor burning, save for grill cooking and small/permanent pit fires, is still prohibited by law at this time. The ban will stay in effect until further notice, which will come in the form of an official announcement from the Forestry Commission.

Even though we received a little rain, the statewide burn ban by The South Carolina Forestry Commission is still in effect. Until the burn ban is lifted please don’t burn anything. We’ve responded to numerous calls over the last couple of days of individuals burning and some unfortunately got out of hand.

Outdoor burning in York County must be conducted in accordance with the County’s Nuisance Ordinance (Ordinance 56.68).

Please be aware that The South Carolina Forestry Commission has not lifted the statewide burning ban. Please do not burn anything while the ban is in place. You could be assessed a fine if you are reported to be burning.
