Today we hosted our final presidential luncheon of the year with 's Student Government Association (SGA). The theme of this lunch focused on student workers, and I enjoyed hearing about students' experiences and their future career and life aspirations.

Today is a fantastic start to our long-term goal of Winthrop being a center of innovation and economic development for the region. We look forward to seeing all of the incredible ideas come to life through the help of this partnership.

We’ve teamed up with the South Carolina Research Authority - SCRA to launch an innovation hub that will be housed on campus. Designed to accelerate investment and strengthen South Carolina’s emerging technology ecosystem in key regions across the state, these hubs will be central regions for collaboration, resource sharing, and support for high-potential tech companies as they grow from ideas to impactful enterprises.

Something to mark on your calendars: On Friday, April 17, 's Counseling Services will host its annual Out of Darkness Campus Walk in partnership with the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. The walk promotes su***de prevention and mental health awareness. Counseling Services stopped by my office recently to talk about this important event and promote the message, "Hope Walks Here."

I'm officially declaring Tuesday, Feb. 24, Garnet & Gold Tuesday in honor of Day at the State House!

A group of students and alumni will travel to Columbia for Winthrop Day at the State House. This annual event is an opportunity to advocate for Winthrop to our legislators. Please show your support by wearing Winthrop gear or garnet and gold. We also will be encouraging our alumni and supporters to participate as well via social media. We hope to have a sea of garnet and gold across the state so that our legislators know what a profound impact Winthrop has on South Carolina.
