Hi! My name is Grace Munson. I am a senior at Pecatonica High School and I enlisted in the Army National Guard on October 31, 2022, as a 31B, Military Police.
I made the decision to join the Army National Guard because I wanted to better myself, both mentally and physically. I also thought it would be a cool experience to have, especially since no one in my family has ever gone into any branch of the military. I also like traveling and this is essentially another way to travel, and gain experience with different things. I needed something to do with myself, so I thought why not.
After high school I plan to not start college right away and get my EMT license. This will allow me to help my department and any future departments I may end up working for since I plans here it is plan to remain a firefighter/ EMT for years to come. After receiving my certification, I plan to attend college in either Arizona or North Carolina. My top two schools would be Grand Canyon University or East Carolina University , and I plan to major in psychology and get my masters in Criminal Justice. While attending college I also plan to take the required courses to become a certified paramedic. My end goal is to use my employment background and continued education to pursue a career with the Special Victims Unit becoming an SVU detective. All while still being a part of the army, National Guard, because that will be one thing that I never want to quit.
One of the not as important reasons I decided to join the Army National Guard was because I had multiple different people tell me that I was not strong enough to be able to join, or that I didn’t have what it takes, and I love proving people wrong, and doing what they say, I can’t because I’m just slightly competitive!
