URGENT 🚨🎆 !!
A Hard Truth We Need to Share…

This isn’t just another fundraising post and it’s a very hard for us to share this news

We are very behind in fundraising goals. And If we don’t reach our fundraising goal our yearly fireworks 🧨 event will likely no longer happen. 😢

Not because anyone wants that.
Not because the committee isn’t trying.
Not because people don’t love the tradition…
Simply because fireworks cost money, and without donations, the math doesn’t work.

We completely understand that priorities may have changed but every summer, thousands of people gather to watch the show. Families make memories. Friends fill the shoreline. Kids look up in awe.

But of those thousands of people who enjoy the fireworks, LESS than 1% of the community / viewers actually donate to keep them going.

There is good news!!
If just 2,000 families/households donated $20, we’d reach our goal!!

Now, the Downtown Development Authority has big plans to transform one of the community's most visible spots from blight into a destination.

Join us in celebrating funding for our newest boardwalk!

We're excited to invite you to Township Hall this Tuesday, August 5 at 3 PM as SEMCOG presents $825,948 in federal funding to support a major pedestrian safety project along Maybee Road at Rohr Road.

This project includes a new boardwalk and sidewalk connection that will:
• Improve pedestrian and cyclist safety
• Connect neighborhoods, parks, and schools
• Expand trail access between Orion & Independence Townships and the Iron Belle Trail

The presentation will include remarks from SEMCOG Executive Director, Amy O'Leary,
Orion Township Leadership, and State & Federal Representatives (TBA).

This is a great opportunity to ask questions, hear from key leaders, and celebrate a major investment in local safety, access, and trail connectivity. All are welcome!

🚘 Big News from GM Orion Assembly in Orion Township! 🚘

General Motors has announced a significant update for the Orion Assembly Plant — and it means big things for our community and Michigan's manufacturing future.

Originally planned as a hub for electric vehicle (EV) production, the Orion plant will now switch its focus to produce the gas-powered Cadillac Escalade, the Chevrolet Silverado, and the GMC Sierra, starting in early 2027. This strategic shift is in response to continued strong demand for gasoline-powered vehicles.

Backed by a $4 billion investment from GM, this move highlights the company's ongoing commitment to Michigan and the hardworking people who drive our state's manufacturing strength.

While Orion Assembly will pivot toward gas-powered vehicles, Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck will continue to lead GM's EV production, including models like the Silverado EV, Sierra EV, Escalade IQ, and HUMMER EV.

This transition secures thousands of jobs and keeps Orion Township at the center of American automotive innovation. We're proud to support a future that balances customer demand, economic growth, and industry leadership.
