‪Happy to meet with students and leaders from Rochester’s Jewish community this week to discuss the issues facing Israel and the Jewish people both at home and abroad.

As supporters of a strong, bipartisan U.S.-Israel relationship, RIPAC stands against PM Netanyahu’s decision under pressure from President Trump to ban two democratically elected members of Congress from visiting Israel. We believe this decision is shortsighted and has the potential to significantly harm relations between these two allies. While we disagree with Representative Omar’s and Tlaib’s views on Israel, we believe it is important that all Americans should be allowed to experience Israel and engage with all sides.

Thank you, Rolly Gueron, former Mossad Division Head and Executive Committee member of Commanders for Israel's Security (CIS) for speaking with us! We enjoyed hearing about CIS's vision for resolving the conflict through a security-oriented, two-state solution agreement, and the vital role that the U.S.-Israel relationship must continue to play in ensuring Israel's security. מפקדים למען בּיטחון ישראל

This sister spotlight goes to Ara, who just got back from a Campus Allies trip during which she visited communities in Israel and Palestine to learn more about political conflicts in the Middle East. In her words, “since it is part of my future career, I am very interested in learning more about the issues and meeting political representatives of the Knesset (congress in Israel). Israeli-Arab community leaders really helped me to achieve that!”

We would like to thank SA President and Vice President candidates Beatriz Gil and Jamal Holtz for their continued support of the U.S. Israel Relationship and involvement with RIPAC activities. Here are their statements:

"Hello everyone, my name is Beatriz Gil and I am running in the election for SA President. As a member of an active college community, I want to take time to recognize organizations that work to raise awareness on important issues. One of these organizations is RIPAC, which has allowed me the opportunity to learn about the importance of Israel-US relations. As SA President and V-president, one of our goals in Student Association Government is to increase communication among the various groups on campus, as we recognize the diversity we have but would like to increase the integration that exists. As this is an issue that affects many members of our student body, I believe that RIPAC as an organization is important in raising awareness and creating dialogue." -Beatriz Gil

“My experience with RIPAC has been a learning one. Through the past two academic years at UofR, through RIPAC, I have had the pleasure to attend different AIPAC conferences and events that not only discussed the US-Israeli relationship but also hear from speakers who can relate their personal experience. I went into these conversations open-minded in the sense of having a greater responsibility of knowing more and formulating my own opinions. My goal is to promote peace and create one community whether that’s globally, nationally, or locally. I think RIPAC does a great deal with ensuring that we are one community, a strong arm in the US-Israeli relation, and lastly promote peace. I look forward to continuing to have conversations with individuals that are involved with RIPAC” -Jamal Holtz

We would like to thank SA Senate candidate Sam Frank for his continued support of the U.S. Israel Relationship and involvement with RIPAC activities. Here is his statement:

"I believe that the Israel-Palestine conflict is the most important issue in the world. The problem with it is that it is mostly based on different ideologies and beliefs of property rights, and those are things that are not easily settled. I believe it is important to educate people on this issue, which is why I am traveling to both Israel and Palestine this summer so that I can educate myself, and then other people, on the impact that this has worldwide." -Sam Frank

U of R student leader Jamal Holtz just returned from AIPAC's African American Student Retreat, where he discussed the important role that the African American community plays in maintaining and strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship.

"Overall the African American retreat was a great experience. It was excellent having the ability to meet other minority leaders from across the nation at other universities. Most importantly, at the retreat I took away a lot from hearing more perspective and history of Israeli-Palestinian relations. I also had the honor of hearing stories from individuals. Moreover, I gained connections, heard stories, and was able walk away a better person with a bigger perspective."
