United Way joined families at Senator Jeremy Cooney's fifth annual summer community barbecue at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, sharing the Rochester Imagination Library.

Because of these links with the community, we can send free books to more families' homes and thus give children more opportunities to read, imagine, and learn with someone they love.

Since United Way took over responsibility in April, 737 new children have joined the Imagination Library program, and 5,283 children in the city of Rochester have been served in total.

When families get used to their school routines, it is worth taking the time to share a book.
If you have a child who is under five years of age, get further information and register now at rochesterimaginationlibrary.org

The 2026 Leadership Development Academy is officially underway, and what a week it has been.

A heartfelt thank you to this week's featured presenters across our Latino Leadership Development and African American Leadership Development programs. Your willingness to show up, share your expertise, and invest in today’s generation of community leaders does not go unnoticed.

Programs like these can only go so far on structure and curriculum alone. It is the community leaders who generously dedicate their time and talent that make the real difference, and this week's presenters did exactly that.

Thank you for the impact you made this week, and for continuing to help us build leaders across our region. We are grateful

We remember today the people who died on September 11, 2001, and always keep the families and communities who have been permanently changed in mind.

We respect the first responders who answered the call, the bravery of ordinary people in helping each other, and the fact that some still bear the burden of that day.

We at the United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes believe looking after our neighbors is something everyone should share. Let us show our respect for those who have died by demonstrating kindness, providing service, and showing compassion—both within our communities and elsewhere.

We remember, and we stand together.

The United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes is happy to partner with the 2026 Women’s Leadership Summit, bringing together women from across the region at all stages of their careers to learn, connect, and grow.

This year's theme, "The Future Is Chasing Us—Are You Ready to Lead It?", launches a discussion on leading through periods of change, navigating AI in the workplace, and building the skills needed for what's to come.

The afternoon will include the annual Elevating Women awards, which recognize and promote women leaders with support from local companies.

Workplace Wednesday: 🏆City of Rochester, NY

When the United Way campaign for the city was launched at City Hall, Mayor Malik Evans awarded the Giving Cup to the Office of Budget in recognition of the office's success in the 2025 campaign.

The City of Rochester has long supported United Way because we share a common desire to improve people's lives in our community; this year, the partnership has placed greater emphasis on literacy as United Way continues its work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in the City of Rochester.

We are jointly helping children build a strong foundation through books, education, and opportunities.

Thank you to the City of Rochester and Mayor Malik Evans for always leading, providing support, and demonstrating what it means to come together for our community.

There’s just one guitar like this, and one shot to make it yours.

This Stratocaster was built exclusively for United Way LIVE; it started in the hands of DeLoé Custom Guitars and then picked up a one-of-a-kind finish from Lorraine Staunch, a Rochester artist who knows how to make a guitar stand out.

Every part of this guitar was chosen with care: Seymour Duncan and Lindy Fralin pickups, Gotoh hardware, Freestone Guitars touches, and more.

The Basswood body is custom-shaped, the Zebrawood fretboard feels smooth under your fingers, and the HSS pickups give you all the sounds you could want. The finish? You won’t find another like it.

Market value: $1,200

This is a one-of-one.

If you want to own a piece of United Way LIVE history, now’s your chance!

This Labor Day we are paying tribute to the working people who keep our communities going — and to the local labor unions which have for a long-time supported workers and families in Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes.

Everyday union members contribute to strengthening our region by building our neighbourhoods and looking after our families, by educating our children, by producing the goods we depend on, and by furnishing essential services.

We at United Way are proud to work with organized labor as they both strive for stronger workplaces, stronger families, and a stronger community for everyone.

We pay respect to all the generations of workers who have struggled for dignity, fairness and opportunity in the workplace – as well as to those who are carrying on that struggle at the present time.

The Finger Lakes and the United Way of Greater Rochester wish you a Happy Labor Day.
