My experience wi
th Oxford Schools showed a need for the Board of Education to improve the transparency, open communications and responsiveness to Parents and the Community. I saw overcrowded classrooms, important college preparation classes that were too full to accommodate district students and counselors so overwhelmed and understaffed that they failed to ensure students had taken required classes before graduation. My child had a different counselor each year in the crucial high school years due to staff turnovers. I saw children playing on unsafe playgrounds, water dripping into buckets in the High School when it rained, and dodged large potholes in the parking lots
I was voiceless as the Superintendent and Board focused their attention on initiatives and services which benefited non-district student’s while ignoring buildings and grounds maintenance and district student needs. Citizens were silenced at Board meetings their questions and concerns were ignored. I attended Community Forums where the concerns and objections from the majority of the public was completely disregarded. Calls, emails and requests to meet to ask questions and voice concerns and suggestions were met with hostility and disregard
Our Superintendent was simultaneously a paid consultant to a company the School does business with and the Board did nothing. Numerous Board members, admins and staff accepted lavish paid trips to foreign countries which included meals and sightseeing from what the US Government now classifies as a foreign government program that poses a significant national security threat to the US and implemented policies to enforce laws and shut it down. And finally, I discovered that our Superintendent entered into a secret deal with our Chief Financial Controller which promised a $53k and letter of recommendation in exchange for them not saying anything negative about the Super or the District and also paid the employee to not come to work. This deal was not approved by the Board or disclosed to the public and when discovered by the public the board failed to adequately hold the superintendent and accomplices accountable
Numerous citizens voiced concern about public education funds being misappropriated for a program we now violated law. They were repeatedly told that F-1 visa students are prohibited from attending public schools a 2nd year, yet they continued until Homeland Security remove the students mid-year and commenced enforcement actions
The Superintendent and the Board were unresponsive to the communities concerns and the public was routinely silenced and ignored by the Board - we needed a voice, we needed to be heard and district children's safety and education must come first
