It's kinda chic to say, "you'll never be in trouble for telling me"

That's how we're closing out our first week back to school. Speaking up isn't getting someone in trouble; it's protecting a child. If a kid tells you something that worries you, believe them, and get them connected with someone who can help.

Heard. Seen. Believed. That's what we're here for, all year, not just back-to-school week.

It's kinda chic to ask "What's your favorite app, and who do you talk to on it?"

Curiosity, not an interrogation. Kids are more likely to talk if it feels like interest, not a security check. A few ground rules worth setting early.

· School name, address, and phone number stay private
· Anyone who asks for photos or wants a conversation kept secret is a red flag
· Report all to your safe adult

It's kinda chic to walk the route together before they walk it alone.

Practice both directions. Go with a buddy. Name the safe stops along the way: a neighbor's porch, the corner store, a crossing guard. Make sure the rule is clear: always check with a safe adult before going anywhere with anyone.

Small routines like this build real confidence for kids, and for the grown-ups watching them go.

That doesn't happen in one big talk, it's built with moments all year. Ask about their day the same way you'd ask a friend.

· Who did you sit with at lunch?
· What made you laugh today?
· Was there a part of your day you didn't like?

The goal isn't a perfect answer. It's showing them you're listening and that nothing they tell you is too much.

New backpack? Check. New Shoes? Check. Five minutes to talk about safety before the first bell rings? That's this week's mission.

Starting today, we're sharing one small conversation a day. These conversations don't have to be scary, just simple ways to keep children safe as they take on the new school year. Follow along all week.
