💛 Free Training for Parents & Caregivers: Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health

Healthy development starts with relationships. SPCC's Mary Ellen Institute invites parents and caregivers to a training series focused on supporting the little ones you love. Together we'll reflect on our own childhood experiences and think about the kind of childhood we want for the children in our lives—ages 0 to 5.

No therapy, no pressure—just a supportive space to learn and connect.

Today, we turn 151. 🎂

On September 6, 1875, SPCC was founded in Rochester as one of the very first organizations in the country dedicated to protecting children — at a time when there were laws protecting animals but none protecting kids.

Here's a piece of history we're proud of: it was SPCC volunteers who advocated for the creation of Monroe County's first Children's Court, which we now know as Family Court. Before it existed, children had no court built for their needs — their cases moved through the same system as adults, with none of the protections or specialized care we now recognize as essential. That single change gave children a place where their needs could come first.

151 years later, that mission hasn't changed. Thank you for being part of the story. 💛

🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of Jessica Brumbaugh at SPCC! 🎉

In 2000, Jessica joined SPCC as an intern. Twenty-five years later, she's our Chief Operating Officer, having grown through roles as Teen Parent Counselor, Family Visitation Specialist, Program Supervisor, Evaluation Director, and Vice President along the way.

As COO, Jessica oversees quality assurance, compliance, development, and support operations across the agency, bringing a rare perspective shaped by both direct service and administrative leadership.

Her belief is simple: children thrive when the people around them are supported well. That conviction has guided a quarter-century of building systems, growing teams, and keeping SPCC focused on what matters most: the children and families we serve.

Congratulations, Jessica, and thank you for 25 incredible years! 🙌

Enjoying a program meeting in a park on a beautiful day.☀️ SPCC’s CEO and other senior leaders concluded a round of listening sessions across the organization yesterday. Listening, connection, celebration and support of what is happening day to day. Relationships is one of our core beliefs and this is one way we make that happen. Thank you to all of the staff and leaders who came out yesterday!
