A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our first ever Summer Kickoff event yesterday at Bear Creek Nature Park! β˜€πŸŽ‰

Despite the hot temperatures, our community came out ready for fun! Guests enjoyed face painting, balloon twisting, the nature and music tables, bounce houses, field games, Kona Ice, and so much more.

We loved seeing so many smiling faces and families starting off the summer right! Thank you for making this event a success. More to come for Summer Kickoff 2027...

Trail Tuesday 🌱

Have you walked around Bear Creek Nature Park and wondered what those wooden boxes are?

They are nest boxes! 🐦

They are part of an initiative to monitor nesting activity of our park's birds, headed by our Stewardship Specialist Grant! Grant trains an awesome group of volunteers who each monitor a certain number of boxes in several of our parks throughout the summer.

The metal tubing you see in the photo is what is called a predator guard. This device keeps out any curious creatures who might want to disturb the nests- although the swallows do a pretty good job at protecting their eggs.

Keep your eyes out for some momma birds this summer and their fledging babies. And watch your head if you get too close!

Trail Tuesday 🌱

With spring migration coming to a close, we're grateful for all the incredible birds that stopped by our parks on their journey north. 🐦

Some highlights pictured are: yellow-rumped warbler, chestnut-sided warbler, northern parula, american redstart, Nashville warbler, and blackburnian warbler.

Warblers migrate from their wintering grounds in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean each spring to their breeding grounds across the US and Canada, taking advantage of all the spring insects and budding vegetation! They travel thousands of miles, often stopping to refuel.

Check out our Wednesday weekly bird walks for the rest of the summer and prep for fall migration! πŸ‘€
