It has been too long since I have posted, but am I lucky to be alive! Every morning at 5AM I go to my local Tim Hortons (Next to Gates Fire District) and get my usual large coffee. I have been going so often the staff at TH see me pull in off Chilli Ave and I drive right up to the pick up window and they have my order right and ready! Well, this past Sunday AM while going home with the blessed TH, I saw a 'gaggle' of what looked like large cats in the road. I hit the horn, swerved to miss them (I know, what does EVOC teach us?!?) and I hit a power pole hard enough to send my car airborne, across the road and hit a second pole more than half way up and DESTROYED my car. Thank God I was driving my Honda CRV. That car saved my life and took it hard. The airbag was smothering me and it took some time to force the drivers door open, unbuckle my seatbelt and stand far away. A huge thanks to Gates Fire, Gates PD and Gates Towing for their concern and kindness and RGE was there in less than 15 minutes to take care of the burning wires and get the road open again. No serious injuries, just sore from being bounced around. Yea, it's hassle to deal with insurance, getting a new car ASAP and believe me when I say the new car will most likely be another Honda CRV. Be well to all and life can and will get better!

As well all begin to celebrate our holidays, please keep the family of First responder Joshua Zaborowski who's watch ended 12/23/2021. May we all pause, and remember, that every First Responder puts themselves at risk each and every day.

Joshua, rest in peace, know your family and agency will always remember you and that your life of service to others will never be forgotten, and may The Almighty Chief welcome you home.

And for those responders who rushed to the scene and handled this terrible event, know you did your best and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Take extra good care of yourselves, everyone.

Awful. First responder Joshua Zaborowski, 30, who was driving an ambulance, was killed in a two-vehicle wreck early Thursday in Texas. Zaborowski died at the scene around 1:20 a.m. https://bit.ly/3H5cQpC

It can not go without fully recognizing, thanking and hands held in prayers for all of the Veterans of these United States of America.

They have served the rest of us with their own lives, always being on duty and never, ever forget all of those who have gone on to meet their Almighty in the name of peace, democracy and supporting those who are stripped of these basic, fundamental human rights.

May my Almighty God always bless and protect this country's protectors.

May the date of September 11th, 2001 never be forgotten nor go unrecognized no matter what the future brings. This 20th anniversary only proves and proudly shows that regardless who tries to harm or destroy our First Responders or our Citizens shall never succeed nor ever go simply back into their shadows without the fury of the United States, its Armed Forces or the strength that no other nation, such as the USA shall ever achieve. May God bless for ever more all of those who have sacrificed lives, family, jobs and have had their futures changed so drastically so the rest of us may sleep in peace and protection. There is no greater gift than that.

Excellent news for our "First Responders", who may not be in the field with EMS/Fire/Police repsonders, but they are well overdue for this benefit and acknowledgement.

The law signed by Gov. Jared Polis this week allows dispatchers to receive compensation for PTSD brought on by hearing traumatic incidents

05/20/2020

This entire week highlights and honors a very special group of emergency responders that recently have exceeded expectations, pushed themselves beyond most others abilities, having to work in fear and to expect the unknown. For some have even paid the ultimate sacrifice this EMS Week, 2020.

Our nation is blessed by those who chose to go into the field of EMS, knowing that they will be challenged by what they have to learn and master, what experiences they will all at some point have to face down and then rise above. The costs that our EMS Professionals have to pay on a day to day basis is high enough. When you add in the multi-faced Covid-19 pandemic needs and pulls on our ability to respond to calls for help, facing the indisputable facts that we will not be able to save all of those who called for help only puts an added burden on the already heavyweight of being an EMS Professional.

Never in the history of EMS and Public Safety as a whole, has there been such a challenge and need to adapt the science and art of providing EMS services. The acronym ‘PPE’ will be evermore ingrained into our minds as this pandemic continues to unfold and alter the way we have worked, even with the latest tools, techniques and resources, that induces an entirely new level of distress and anxieties as we continue to fight the unknown.

Our nation as whole needs to take this EMS Week 2020 and use that a clear point of reference and as an underscore of just how important our EMS profession is, why it needs more funding, more attention and especially more acknowledgement, not just once a year, but on a regular basis.

During my 20+ years of field EMS service that I had the opportunity to give back to my community and to create lifelong friendships, I want to not just show gratitude to each of our EMS professional this special week, but to say directly to you all, “EMS Professionals rock!” “What would our communities be like without each of you doing what you do so well?”

May the Almighty EMS Chief hold you all safe and continue to give the energy and drive to save lives and to continue to do what you are so dedicated towards.
