Thank You, First Zion Church!

Recently, Pastor Daniel Won of First Zion Church of Hackensack stopped by Fire Headquarters to introduce himself and present a generous monetary donation to Hackensack IAFF Locals 2081 and 3172.

Their contribution will directly support the Hackensack Fire Widows and Orphans Fund, helping the families of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our community.

Today, members of Hackensack IAFF Locals 2081 and 3172 took time out of their day to prioritize their health by participating in cancer screenings at Fire Headquarters.

April is Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month — a reminder of how critical early screening can be, especially for firefighters. Due to repeated exposure to toxic smoke, carcinogens, and hazardous materials, firefighters face a significantly higher risk of occupational cancer. Early detection truly saves lives.
Screenings included:
• Skin, mouth, and lymph node evaluations
• Blood draws for cancer markers
• Ultrasound screenings of the thyroid, bladder, and testicles
• Low-dose CT lung scans (with prescription provided after initial screenings)
Members who complete the low-dose lung scan will also receive complimentary calcium scoring.

Thanks to ongoing efforts and legislation in New Jersey, all career firefighters are eligible for comprehensive cancer screenings every three years — ensuring those who protect our communities have access to the care they deserve.

Protecting those who protect us starts with prevention and early detection.
