On Tuesday, August 25, four Robinson firefighters deployed following an urgent request through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) to assist with the Ross Fire, which has now burned more than 85,000 acres across Palo Pinto and Jack counties.
Our crew packed and departed within hours of the request. Upon arrival, their Strike Team immediately went to work—first assisting with notifications to residents in Bryson regarding evacuation needs, then supporting a backburn operation along Highway 380 between Bryson and Jacksboro in an effort to slow the fire’s forward progress.
From there, Robinson personnel were assigned to structure protection in a neighborhood directly threatened by the fast-moving wildfire. After working through the night and into the morning, crews were finally able to get some rest around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. At 7:00 p.m., they returned to the same area to continue structure protection operations through the night.
Please keep our Robinson firefighters and the more than 500 first responders currently deployed across Texas in your thoughts and prayers, along with the families and communities impacted by these devastating fires. Many have lost property, livestock, and belongings that can never truly be replaced.
Despite those losses, there are also remarkable stories emerging from these fires. Throughout the affected areas are powerful reminders of the work performed by the first-arriving firefighters and those who followed—dozens, if not hundreds, of homes and other structures still standing because firefighters made a stand when the fire arrived.
