Yesterday, we had the opportunity to represent the department at the Office of the State Fire Marshal's annual awards ceremony.

Our presence was in honor of former Assistant Chief Chris Wesley, who posthumously was awarded the Fire Prevention and Life Safety award for his development and support of the 8th grade fire safety program at NMS and NHCS.

His family was able to join us, and Joy even joined Assistant Chief Cox on stage to receive the award from Fire Marshal Pankow.

This program wouldn't be possible without the help and planning from Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Fuller at NMS, and Mrs. Wassel at NHCS, as well as the support and involvement of the Marathon Petroleum ERT team, and the work of all of our career firefighters who spend the entire week at the schools teaching, going through blueprints, and hands-on fire extinguisher training.

We thank the State Fire Marshal's Office for their consideration and choosing Chief Wesley to receive this award. It is just one more testament to the lasting impact of his legacy in our community and the fire service as a whole.

🚒 Community Notice: Training & Pre-Planning in Progress 🚒
If you see our trucks parked near local businesses or driving through your neighborhood, don't be alarmed! There is no emergency.

Our crews are out conducting Pre-Incident Planning. This is a vital part of our mission to keep you safe.

During these walkthroughs, our firefighters:
Identify Building Layouts: Locating exits, fire alarms, and sprinkler connections.

Locate Hydrants: Ensuring we have the quickest access to water in an emergency.

Evaluate Hazards: Noting any specific risks to ensure the safety of both the public and our responders.

We believe that the best time to learn about a building is before an emergency happens!

Feel free to give us a wave if you see us! 👋

A big thank you to Highland Church of Christ - Robinson, IL and Voyagers Coffee for providing free drinks to First Responders today.

If you are a First Responder, go get yourself a delicious beverage (I recommend the Santa Fe Sunrise), but everyone should go to out and support the ones who support Emergency Services.

Thank you Highland Church of Christ and Voyagers Coffee!

Congratulations to Firefighter David Kluender on his graduation from the Illinois Fire Service Institute Academy this past weekend. He has spent the last 7 weeks in Champaign studying and working hard to achieve this goal.

David has been with our department since 2021, starting as a paid on call member. He was previously apart of Shawswick VFD in Lawrence County Indiana, joining the department as Junior Firefighter at age 16, and working along side his father. While there he obtained his EMR license, and became a Certified IN FF in 2019. These certifications made it much easier this time, as he was able to challenge the Illinois exams, passing all of them on his first attempt.

David will get a week back home, then return to Champaign to complete his Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue course. We're very much looking forward to having David back on shift and showing us all he's learned these past 7 weeks.

Congratulations David. You've earned it.

Today we got a visit from New Hebron Christian School's preschool class. We got the opportunity to talk to them about fire safety, as well as show off our trucks and equipment.

It's always a ton of fun being able to host such fun kids. Thank you so much for stopping by today.
