Please join us in congratulating Lia, Ellye, Alex, and Jake on recently being signed off as PST-1 Telecommunicators!

A PST-1 (Public Safety Telecommunicator I) is a certified 9-1-1 dispatcher and emergency call-taker recognized by the State of Alabama for their critical role in public safety. Achieving this milestone requires months of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and successful completion of training in both 9-1-1 call-taking and radio dispatching.

Throughout their training, Lia, Ellye, Alex, and Jake have learned how to manage emergency and non-emergency calls, provide life-saving pre-arrival instructions, coordinate resources, and communicate effectively with law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel during critical incidents. As PST-1 Telecommunicators, they join the ranks of Alabama's officially recognized first responders and serve as a vital link between our citizens and the help they need.

This is a significant accomplishment and a testament to their hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout the training process.

Congratulations, Lia, Ellye, Alex, and Jake! We are proud of each of you and look forward to watching you continue to grow and succeed in your careers at Baldwin Central.

Our dispatch team is truly blessed to have a 9-1-1 Board that consistently shows up for our community, our responders, and our employees. To our team, they are much more than board members; they are advocates, supporters, and champions for the people behind the headsets.

Whether it's a phone call into dispatch, an email, or a text of encouragement, recognizing our dispatchers in a public forum, advocating on their behalf during board meetings, or taking the time to sit alongside them and experience firsthand what they do each day, their support does not go unnoticed.

A special thank you to Board Member Chief Sealy for spending yesterday afternoon with our dispatchers and taking the time to learn more about the people behind the headsets and the critical work they perform. Opportunities like these help build a greater understanding of the challenges, responsibilities, and dedication required to serve as the vital link between our citizens, first responders, and emergency services.

To all of our board members, thank you for your continued encouragement, advocacy, and commitment to our team. We are grateful for the many ways you support and champion our dispatchers and the important work they do every day.

Introducing Open Mic

We are excited to launch Open Mic, a new series where each month we will ask one of our team members a featured question and share their response with our community.

Open Mic is designed to give you an opportunity to learn more about the people behind and beyond the headset and gain insight into the world of public safety communications and emergency response. Whether you have ever wondered what it's like to work in 9-1-1, what challenges and rewards come with the job, or what advice our staff would give to others considering this career, this is your chance to hear directly from those who live it every day.

Our goal is to answer questions you may have, introduce you to responder life, and provide a glimpse into a profession that plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe. Who knows—you may even discover a career path you would like to explore further.

We also want to hear from you! If there is something you have always wondered about 9-1-1, emergency communications, responder life, or our team, you can submit questions for future editions of Open Mic. Your question may be selected and answered by one of our staff members in an upcoming feature.
