Gateswood VFD was proud to host a Swiftwater and Flood First Responder Course this past weekend taught by Rescue 3 International.
Responders learned the ins and outs of hydrology and victim response to water as well as how to retrieve victims and stabilize vehicles in moving water.
The best part of the class is that we had multi department participation with both paid and volunteer departments represented. The teamwork and camaraderie built during a weekend like this is what makes the difference when a call gets hectic. Thanks to everyone who helped make this weekend such a success!

Gateswood VFD will be hosting a Swiftwater/Flood First Responder Course taught by Rescue 3 International.

Class dates are:
Thursday, July 30th (6-10 PM)
Friday, July 31st (6-10 PM)
Saturday OR Sunday (8:00-5:00)

The class is 16 hours. All students must attend both evening sessions and ONE of the full days. Saturday and Sunday will be hands on activities and will be spent in the water swimming and performing rescues. We will provide all water rescue equipment for the class sessions.
Class cost is $345

“Thank you” doesn’t even begin to fully say how truly gracious we are to everyone involved in Winterfest 2025.

Thank you to the vendors who risked the rain and space issues to make sure we had plenty of wonderful goodies to purchase and take home.

Thank you to everyone who purchased one of the 504 Boston butts.

Thank you to everyone who donated their money and time to make sure this weekend happened. Family and friends who spent hours at the station helping rub and wrap butts, decorate, clean, set up, whatever we needed. You were there. You were seen. And you are deeply loved and appreciated!

To our community, we cannot do what we do without you, which is funny because you are also the reason that we do what we do! Thank you for being the greatest little (not so little anymore) community around!

It’s time we address the giant elephant holding the umbrella in the room.
We have been monitoring the weather and have decided to carry on with Winterfest 2025. The smokers are loaded with our Boston butts and we have all the fixings for lunch to be served. If there is a break in the rain and it is safe to do so, we will run the parade route. We have enough room in the station for around 25 vendors. The car show will be dependant upon the weather. While this isn’t shaping up to be the wonderful event we had planned, we fully believe that our Gateswood community can still turn this into a wonderful day!! Bring your boots and rain jacket and come out to see us tomorrow!

We pushed and encouraged preorders.
We ordered well above what we had preordered by our deadline
But the orders didnt stop coming.
Between today and Saturday morning we will smoke over 500 Boston Butts!!
With that being said, we are officially sold out on our smoked Boston Butts for our Winterfest 2025!!
All 504 have been spoken for!

While this is a wonderful thing that we have broken our record and sold more butts than we ever have, we HATE having to tell people that we are out.

There are always a few extras on the day of the event due to no shows and cancellations so we do have a call back list started. If you did not get on the preorder list and want to try your chance at one, just let us know and we will contact you if we have a spare!

Also, we will have a cooking ready to go on Friday evening around 4:00. If you did preorder and wanted go ahead and pick your butt up then, let us know and you can swing by and have dinner for Friday in the bag!
