Erin Oleksiuk, district technician, hosted story time this morning at the beautiful Coke County Library. The book Real Cowboys was read; kiddos learned that real cowboys are quiet, kind, patient, take care of the land and each other. Then the group made their own cowboy hats! Be sure to pop in the library to grab some books to enjoy during hot afternoons! And don't forget real cowboys read!

Through Ben's guidance and patience, many districts across West Texas have benefited from his knowledge and resources. Happy retirement, it's been well earned.

After more than 26 years of dedicated service to the TSSWCB, Ben Wilde is celebrating his retirement! 🎉 As an Area II Field Representative, Ben faithfully served Texas conservation districts, providing guidance, support, and leadership that made a lasting impact on both the agency and the communities he worked alongside. His commitment to conservation and the relationships he built throughout his career have left an enduring mark on the TSSWCB.

We are incredibly grateful for Ben's years of service and the contributions he made to advancing conservation across Texas. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-earned retirement and wishing him all the best in this exciting new chapter!

Healthy soil plays a critical role in protecting our water resources. 💧Soil absorbs rainfall and irrigation, reducing runoff and erosion while helping filter pollutants before they reach streams, rivers, and lakes. It also helps recharge aquifers that supply water for communities, agriculture, and wildlife. Good soil stewardship helps ensure clean and reliable water for Texans today and in the future.

Soil does more than sit beneath our feet; it powers Texas agriculture! 🌱 By anchoring roots and supplying nutrients, healthy soil helps produce the food and fiber that sustain everything we grow and help feed and clothe millions across the country.

In fact, U.S. farmers and ranchers produce enough to feed more than 330 million Americans and hundreds of millions worldwide, all starting with healthy soil.

From the deserts of West Texas to the forests of East Texas, from rolling rangelands to productive croplands, every region relies on the soil beneath it. Each soil type plays an important role in supporting agriculture, wildlife, and natural ecosystems. Because no matter the landscape, soil is where it all begins.

Happy Earth Day!
How can you view a west Texas sunset, a creek running after a rain shower, and the colors of wildflowers and not want to protect it? Everyday is Earth Day for Texans, protecting the land and the creatures who live on it. Being a good steward is being a good Texan!
