Structure Fire at 202 East Academy Street
At 10:27 a.m., the Robersonville Fire Department was dispatched following a report of possible smoke or steam coming from the roof of a building located at 202 East Academy Street in Robersonville. The structure, previously operating as a Super Dollar, has been vacant for several years.
First arriving units reported heavy smoke showing from the front of the building. Due to the size of the structure, mutual aid departments were requested.
Responding agencies included:
• Primary: Robersonville Fire Department
• Mutual Aid: Williamston Fire Department, Bear Grass Fire Department, Hamilton Fire Department, Oak City Fire Department, Bethel Fire Department, and Carolina Township Fire Department
A total of 14 suppression apparatus, one EMS unit, and one equipment truck responded to the incident.
Fire crews were able to locate and extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control at approximately 11:10 a.m. and was completely extinguished and ventilated by 11:34 a.m. The fire appeared to have been intentionally set and is currently under investigation.
Fire damage was confined to the former Super Dollar portion of the building, although other units within the structure sustained smoke damage. The entire building was vacant at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
Once fire suppression, overhaul, and ventilation operations were completed, the scene was turned over to the Robersonville Police Department for further investigation.
The Robersonville Fire Department reminds the public to report any suspicious activity around vacant structures and to promptly notify authorities of any signs of smoke or fire.
