It was a pleasure to host the Norfolk & Western Historical Society's opening night of their 2026 convention at the museum last night. The barbecue was such a great chance to see old and new friends. Thank you N&WHS for giving us this opportunity!

The RV-6 experimental aircraft is a low wing monoplane of aluminum construction. RV structures are "monocoque" or "stressed skin" designs. This means the skins themselves provide much of the airframe's strength. The skins are in turn supported by an internal structure of ribs, spars, and bulkheads, just like production light aircraft. The RV-6 has a top speed of 202 miles per hour. The plane's width spans 23 feet from wing tip to wing tip and the length spans 20 feet 2-1/2 inches from nose to tail.

Something BIG is coming to Roanoke and it’s not the Union Pacific Big Boy… the 611 is about to make history of her own!

This Saturday at 3:00 PM, history will be made at the Virginia Museum of Transportation with Norfolk & Western Class J No. 611.

We are encouraging ALL railfans, families, supporters, photographers, videographers, media outlets, and the general public to be here in person for what will be one of the most historic moments in the 611's history.

If you have ever loved steam railroading…
If you have ever ridden behind or chased the 611…
If you have ever wanted to witness history firsthand… THIS is the event to attend.

This is not just another announcement. This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment for the 611, the Virginia Museum of Transportation, and the worldwide steam community.

Bring your friends, family, and cameras and most importantly - be there!
