September 11, 2001 — We Remember
Today, we pause to honor and remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
We remember the passengers and crew members, the civilians in the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and the brave firefighters, EMS providers, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve.
In our own region, the memory of that day is preserved through the 9/11 Memorial at Salem Fire-EMS Station 1, which incorporates steel recovered from the World Trade Center. This piece of history serves as a reminder of the lives lost, the courage displayed, and the lasting impact that day had on communities across the nation.
As members of the EMS community, we honor the dedication and sacrifice of those who ran toward danger when others were running away. Their service continues to inspire every responder who answers the call today.
May we always remember.
