At 3:55PM, crews on B-Shift were dispatched by the E-911 Center to reports of a duplex on fire in the 2600 block of Dorchester Drive NW. Initial reports indicated there was a patient in the front yard with critical injuries that self-extricated themselves from the home.
While enroute to the fire, our team on Engine 3 reported visible smoke in the area and the call was upgraded to a working fire response adding additional resources. At 3:57PM, Engine 3 arrived and advised there was a residential structure with heavy fire showing and a partial structural collapse with a victim outside. The call was upgraded to a 2 Alarm Fire response.
Firefighters and Medics quickly went to work extinguishing the flames and providing medical care and transport to a local hospital for one patient. Due to the structural collapse, downed wires, and continued explosions from the home, our team initiated a defensive attack. The fire was quickly knocked down.
Five people have been displaced. One patient was transported with life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. Updates will be posted as they are available.
