Roanoke Police Investigating Fatal Shooting on Windsor Road SW

On September 3, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m., Roanoke Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 3500 block of Windsor Road SW.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. Roanoke Fire-EMS personnel responded and pronounced the individual deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the incident stemmed from an altercation that began while the involved parties were driving in the area and later escalated into a confrontation after the vehicles stopped.

Officers detained the other individual involved in the incident, and a fi***rm was recovered at the scene. The individual was later interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, detectives consulted with the Roanoke City Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office regarding the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the facts and evidence surrounding the incident will be presented to a future Roanoke City Grand Jury for consideration of any appropriate charges.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Roanoke Police Arrest Two Following Business Burglary
On September 3, 2026, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Roanoke Police were notified of an alarm activation at a business in the 2500 block of Orange Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers observed signs of forced entry into the building. During the investigation, officers reviewed security camera footage that showed two suspects breaking the front door of the business and entering the store.
Investigators identified the suspects, and both were located later that morning and taken into custody.
19-year-old Benjamin Reece Sparks Jr. of Roanoke and 18-year-old Landon Troy Cottrell of Roanoke were each charged with Burglary.
Both are currently being held at the Roanoke Adult Detention Center.

Roanoke Police Make Arrest in Orange Avenue Shooting
On August 31, 2026, Roanoke Police responded to the 1300 block of Orange Avenue NW for a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, officers located the victim and immediately began providing medical assistance. Roanoke Fire-EMS responded and transported the victim to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. The victim is currently listed in stable condition.
Officers obtained information regarding a suspect during the investigation. On September 1, 2026, Roanoke Police arrested 30-year-old Roanoke resident Richard Alan Eary.
Eary has been charged with malicious wounding and is currently being held in the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center.

This coordinated effort aims to save lives by intensifying impaired driving enforcement during one of the year’s busiest travel periods, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Roanoke Police Make Arrest Following Robbery
On August 27, 2026, Roanoke Police were notified of a robbery that occurred in the 1700 block of Hershberger Road.
Responding officers arrived at the scene and learned that a vehicle believed to be involved in the robbery had left the area.
Roanoke Police iSTAR personnel utilized LPR technology to assist in locating the suspect vehicle. Through iSTAR efforts, an address associated with the vehicle was identified and officers responded to the area, where they located both the vehicle and the suspect.
58-year-old Timothy Ralph Boyd was taken into custody and charged with robbery.
Boyd is currently being held in the Roanoke City Jail.

On August 18, 2026, at approximately 8:11 p.m., Roanoke Police officers responded to the 3300 block of Bandy Road SE for a report of an argument between two individuals.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject involved in the incident. The male entered a residence and refused to cooperate with officers. During the investigation, a female victim approached officers and reported that the male was armed with a handgun and had threatened her.
Officers established a perimeter around the residence and requested assistance from the Roanoke Police Department SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team.
Negotiators established contact with the subject by phone. After speaking with him, negotiators were able to convince the subject to exit the residence and surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The subject was identified as 59-year-old Marc Edward Fly of Roanoke County. Fly was arrested and charged with Abduction and Burglary.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
