The Office of Neighborhood Services works collaboratively with citizens, neighborhood groups, government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations to strengthen the social fabric of our neighborhoods by fostering civic duty and responsibility, sharing information, administering programs, providing educational activities and serving as a liaison for connecting citizens to the services and in

formation they need for improving their quality of life while using their input to ensure a comprehensive and effective response to their neighborhood needs are met.

The biggest cleanup of the year is back! 🤩

Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 8 for Stormwater’s Annual Tinker Creek Cleanup! Every year Stormwater hosts a cleanup on Tinker Creek and the Roanoke River. This is a great opportunity for you to get outdoors, enjoy some free swag, and learn more about Stormwater while being part of a Clean Water Legacy. The sign up will open in the next couple of weeks, so follow our pages to get notified!

Roanoke is a 2026 All-America City finalist because of projects like Arts Connect Neighbors!

A first-of-its-kind program, Arts Connect brings free, community-building art programs directly to neighborhoods. The catalog of nearly 70 activities includes performances, workshops and creative activities that neighborhood groups and organizations can choose from.

More than 150 events have been held in Roanoke’s neighborhoods, helping to build community for the more than 6,000 participants. The National Civic League’s All-America City Award celebrates cities that drive meaningful change through programs like this!

The 8th and final award, the Neighborhood Champion Award, goes to... Old Southwest!

This group was nominated twice for this year’s neighborhood partnership award – once for the group’s PorchFest & Day Avenue Pocket Park Ribbon Cutting celebration on Oct. 4 and a second time as part of a group nomination for the 2025 Southside National Night Out event.
Right off the pocket park ribbon cutting – a pollinator habitat and lot renovation project which took several years of sustained effort to complete – they launched into investigating a possible stormwater improvement on another piece of property. Old Southwest was also one of three neighborhood groups to participate in the 6-month long Grant Ready Roanoke nonprofit capacity-building program in 2025.
