Today is Bike to Work Day and several local organizations came together to celebrate across Roanoke this morning as folks commuted. Locations around town handed out coffee and donuts as a treat for those taking part. Hear why Roanoke is a great city to ride a bike and why folks enjoy commuting to work on two wheels!

Area youth gathered this weekend at Westside Elementary School for the Walk & Roll Ready Rally! The focus was learning about traffic and cycling safety with interactive experiences provided by area transportation advocacy groups, the City of Roanoke Transportation and Roanoke City Public Schools.

This coming Saturday, 10am to 1pm, a free & fun event to help kids and families learn about safely walking & rolling to school! Fun activities, information and resources for parents, helmet and bike checks, and more!

The event takes place at the Westside Elementary School's Traffic Garden - a miniature, car-free street network designed as a safe space for children and new learners to practice biking, walking, and roadway safety!

Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission staff will be helping kids learn, play and interact with the traffic garden.

The wonderful folks at WeeWheel Roanoke will be at the Roanoke Walk & Roll Ready Rally too! WeeWheel's mission is to help kids learn to ride, improve and enjoy biking!

PedalSafe ROA will also be helping! PedalSafe ROA is a local non-profit promoting a livable Roanoke by improving the safety, convenience, and acceptance of cycling for all people.

and ... Kool Kids & Delicia's Gourmet Ice will be one site too to keep families fueled and smiling!
